Legendary Blues artist John Hammond was too modest to make claims about his career as a professional musician. But anyone the least bit familiar with modern blues will tell you he was long rated as one of the leading country-blues artists in the world, a position he held with undiminished loyalty to tradition for most of his career. In this archival interview from June 2000, Hammond recalls how he got to work gigs with just about everybody he idolized, including a very young Jimi Hendrix just weeks before he got his big break in England. One of the highlights of The Experience's two-week October 1968 stint at TTG Studios was this primal remake of Van Morrison’s “Gloria," recorded on October 29th. With their amplifiers jacked to maximum volume, “Gloria” sounded very much like a vintage Experience stage performance. #JimiHendrix #Gloria

Abe Jacob joined Jimi Hendrix's road crew shortly following The Experience's departure from The Monkees tour in July 1967 and served as Jimi's live sound engineer into 1970. In addition to providing sound production and the front-of-house mix for Hendrix's live performances, Abe was instrumental in the mobile live recordings of Jimi Hendrix's two concerts on May 30, 1970, at the Berkeley Community Theatre, the first of which is subject of the new album MAGIC BOY available on October 16.
During production of the expanded JIMI PLAYS BERKELEY film released in 2012, Experience Hendrix's Catalog Manager John McDermott sat down with Abe Jacob to discuss his time touring with Jimi Hendrix and the recording of the Berkeley concerts.
