Three years ago I told my non-Jewish friends they could sit this one out. I take it back. 3 years later, I’m afraid I have a different message for you.
I wrote an open letter about what being Jewish has felt like since October 7, and I need you to hear it from me.
Israel’s Arab-led parties won 19 Knesset seats.
Today all of them backed Gadi Eisenkot to form the next government, giving him 67 endorsements to Netanyahu’s 46.
Arab voters and lawmakers are playing a big role in shaping Israeli society.
Remember these facts the next time someone tries to hit you with the apartheid libel. It’s simply not true.
If you want to understand the way people think and talk about Jews (it’s not good), check out the replies to this. Despite being less than 3% of the country, we are somehow always to blame for every bad thing that happens to it.
History doesn’t repeat itself, but Jews know the pattern: inequality rises, populism grows, someone gets blamed.
@Mosheh on the Israel-aid myth spreading this campaign season, and why his kids now grow up with synagogue security he never needed.

Jewish Democrats are hopeful today that with U.S. funding to Israel ending and AIPAC politically diminished and no longer funding candidates, the hatred will stop.
Here in Canada we have no AIPAC equivalent, and our funding to Israel is insignificant.
The hatred is worse.

Jews have voted Democratic for generations. But a lot of us feel the party doesn’t want us back.
Joel Rubin's @JoelMartinRubin warning to his own party: you win elections by addition. If Democrats lose the Jewish vote, who replaces it?
Even though he didn’t make The Ad, El Sayed still told the anti-Jew conspiracy/control lie, repeatedly: “Israel controls the US. Israel makes your life less affordable.” Both lies.
When you use Israel as a boogeyman to foment hate and mistrust of Jews via the Jewish state, that is Jew hate in the form of antizionism. The Soviets “condemned antisemitism” all the time and still killed over a million “Zionists.”

Over the past months, a single Wikipedia editor has been quietly shaping @AbdulElSayed's entry.
The editing has been intensive and highly directed. For example:
+ Hasan Piker controversy got cut down.
+ Syed's antisemitism problem – deleted.
+ Harris and Obama endorsements went in.
+ A line saying AIPAC’s brand is “toxic” included.
Is it an op?
Well, two weeks ago the same editor had this to say in an edit summary on the El-Sayed page:
“another half month of this shit.”

A lifelong Democrat explains why he won’t back his party’s Senate nominee in Michigan.
@JoelMartinRubin on Abdul El-Sayed, Israel aid, and the Temple Israel attack. Michigan votes tomorrow.
What should a candidate have to show Jewish voters before earning their vote?
When Israeli politicians do something bad, Jews everywhere get blamed for it.
When an American politician libels Israel and Jews object, we're told: "Don't conflate Israel with Jews, remember?"
We get the crappy end of this paradox in both directions.
Two things are true at the same time:
Denying the connection of the Jewish people to Israel is bigotry. AND conflating the Jewish people with Israel is also bigotry.
Almost everyone, on both sides, gets one of these wrong.
Anyone who doesn’t understand this is, however well intentioned, is simply unaware of how repeatedly and unapologetically antagonistic El-Sayed has been to the Jewish community. It’s a wonder Stevens hung in there this long. Major kudos to her.
Replying to @HaleyforMI
Haley Stevens did everything possible to support Abdul El-Sayed for party unity.
All she asked was for him to condemn the rabid Antisemitism of Hasan Piker & Cenk Uygur.
He refused.
Kudos to @HaleyforMI for prioritizing principles over party, and Jewish safety over politics.

El-Sayed’s response to Rep Stevens’ call for him to condemn ad from outside group, take down his own ad featuring Tucker Carlson, and apologize for previous comments about aid to Israel:
Bernie Sanders got October 7th right and condemned Hamas’s attack. Then, says @JoelMartinRubin, who ran Jewish outreach for Bernie’s 2020 campaign, he flipped under pressure from the hard left.
Does being Jewish automatically make a politician good for the Jews?
Some Democrats say they’re protecting Jews while telling Jews what antisemitism is.
Joel Rubin’s @JoelMartinRubin example: Mamdani’s antisemitism plan – which a coalition of Jewish groups rejected – alongside constant targeting of the Jewish state.
Protection on whose terms?
Joel Rubin @JoelMartinRubin , a lifelong Democrat, says the question isn’t whether Jews will vote Democratic.
It’s whether Democrats will support Jews. He fears 2028 could leave Jewish voters as free agents.
Is it too late for the party to win them back?
