Nice talk by Dr. @ScottRSteeleMD. As a longtime @BehindTheKnife podcast listener, great to hear him end his talk with “dominate the day!”

Do you know the difference between a topical hemostatic agents that cost $75 vs. $1000 💸?? Often used, seldom taught. Take a listen or watch ➡️ behindtheknife.org/podcast/d…

Very little teaching out there about using hemostatic agents. This is worth a listen.
Demystifying Topical Hemostatic Agents: A Mental Model for Surgeons The scrub tech holds up two boxes, “SURGICEL or EVARREST?”, and you realize nobody ever taught you the difference! Today @georgoff @Kniery_Bird @mcclellanjm @nickteman break down topical hemostatic agents, one of the most used and least taught tools in the OR. You’ll get a simple two-question model for picking the right product: can your patient make their own clot, and can a patch reach the bleeding? Through trauma, vascular, and cardiac cases, the team covers when these agents earn their keep and when two minutes of pressure (no peeking!) will do the job. Bottom line: hemostatic agents speed up hemostasis, but they’re a targeted adjunct to good surgical technique, not a substitute for it. 🎧 📺 behindtheknife.org/podcast/d…

Extremely excited to share this collaboration between @OpenEvidence and @BehindTheKnife, with @georgoff and team. Exciting developments ahead!
It happened. We got Behind the Knife. @BehindTheKnife's surgical education library will feed into OpenEvidence answers, and OpenEvidence will be built into their ABSITE and oral board prep. @AmbarMehta, a vascular surgeon who leads surgery initiatives at OpenEvidence, puts it this way: the toughest surgical decisions live between the lines of the evidence.

A great example of creative endovascular problem-solving in a true bailout situation. The team combined large-volume thrombectomy with an Endurant II aortic endograft + kissing VBX limbs…

One of the more practice changing papers I have come across in the past few years. A must listen for vascular surgeons and trainees. I was mainly shocking iliacs, but great data for the Fem/Pop segment.

Replying to @NicholasZaorsky
As a mentor of mine would say: Go to any academic surgery department and look at all the portraits on the walls of surgeons who thought they were irreplaceable

I understand the value of standardized technical skills assessment, but I’m torn on its utility. If experienced faculty can verify that a trainee is technically competent and ready for independent practice, is another required exam necessary? What do others think?
Fundamentals of Vascular Surgery will soon be a requirement of the American Board of Surgery for Vascular surgery trainees. APDVS Curriculum Chair Dr. Paul DiMusto here at @MWVSSociety 2026 evaluating trainees. For more information check out: vascular.org/apdvs/program-d…

The single most important event in any surgeon's career is the first major complication they get after becoming an attending. Though it may be a tragic event, it's only then that they really grow up and truly understand the magnitude of what they're doing.
“Every surgeon carries within himself [herself] a small cemetery, where from time to time he goes to pray- a place of bitterness and regret, where he must look for an explanation for his failures.” -Rene Leriche We mustn’t forget to care for ourselves and colleagues when complications occur.
