Someone should make an app that converts the LXX or GNT to boustrophedon (in majuscule) just to mess with students.
Speaking of Alexandrinus, here's a walkthrough of the manuscript with some sample readings

And on that note: how is it possible that the British Library still has not gotten this manuscript (and numerous others) back online after the cyberattack in 2023?
I promise today's @DailySeptuagint video is not about the illuminati. It's just a patch in Codex Alexandrinus...
Maybe we just go with the KJV for the πιστις χριστου?
Today's Greek-to-Pulpit delves into Rom 3:21-25, where this issue comes to the fore (saving ἱλαστήριον for next week's part two)

Could just be me, but it seems like very-online Roman Catholic or Orthodox apologists have ramped up their critiques of Protestants for "removing" the deuterocanonicals. So here's my meager attempt at sorting through *how* we would judge this issue

Isaiah 6 today in Septuagint class, also giving the students some exposure to Qumran Hebrew and its glorious paleography
Video on my favorite non-Dead Sea Hebrew fragment, the Nash Papyrus. What's interesting to me, apart from the unusual order of the commandments, is how Deut 6 & Exod 20--including the "longer" (LXX-style) Shema--are interpretively playing off each other

Paul's catena in Rom 3:9-20 is a good test case for how one construes his use of the OT in general. Is he pulling from a hat...or sensitive to context? (If the latter [and it is], then his use of Isa 59 here is particularly stunning...)

Here's the deep dive on Galatians with @pj_schreiner in which he argues that allegorical/tropological/anagogical interpretation is just ancient vibecoding.
Ok, he doesn't argue that. But it would be funny if we had thought of that idea during the interview

As a follow-up to my prior video on covenant/canon distinctions, here's my take on the evidence for a threefold Hebrew collection of Scriptures: youtu.be/YJ0s3xv8yVQ
(derived from my essay in Authority of the Septuagint)
Next week I'll cover Apocrypha/Deuterocanon directly
Had a great in-depth conversation yesterday with @pj_schreiner on Galatians 4 (allegory is back, baby...with caveats...and common sense...but a bit of spiciness too). Video will post on Thursday.
Paul's citation of Psalm 14 (and seemingly other stuff) in Romans 3:9ff is fascinating for many reasons. Not the least of which is how the entire catena is found in the majority Greek tradition of Psalm 14[13]. Which raises all sorts of questions.

This week's installment of "From Greek to Pulpit" looks at Rom 3:1-8 and involves this frameable scribble about Paul's use of Ps 51 and how that relates to the vertical and horizontal dimensions of his argument (and also why κρινεσθαι is mid not pass here)

Today in Septuagint class, we spent time in Ps 40[39], esp. the "ears"/"body" issue. Good discussion.
But my tradition is to start this particular class by playing U2's "40."
This year...
No one knew the song. Fine. It's niche.
But half the class had not even *heard* of U2.
RIP
I consolidated my @DailySeptuagint videos on the Hexapla into one resource if it's helpful for folks: youtube.com/watch?v=tW1czg8g…
Just doing my part to make @drjohnmeade and the Hexapla Institute famous
ISAT also hosting John on 12/1 for a virtual Hexapla lecture. Stay tuned
Excited to announce the 2027 Greek & Hebrew for Life Conference to be hosted at @rtsorlando. A joint venture by @dailygreek and the RTS Institute for the Study of Ancient Texts. Find out more in this preview (with links to registration)

P Bodmer V (part of the Composite codex that throws together Jude, 1-2 Peter, Melito, and other random stuff) features the earliest text of the Protoevangelium of James, which is arguably the most influential apocryphal "gospel"(ish) writing
