AI and Cloud: Two Sides of the Same Transformation I’m deliberately positioning my work at the intersection of AI and cloud computing—not to cover all the bases, but because separating them increasingly creates more confusion than clarity. Yes, it can make the “top 10” lists awkward. I may get placed in AI and excluded from cloud, or placed in cloud and excluded from AI. That’s fine. Categories are useful shorthand, but they are not a strategy. My roots in AI go back before cloud was even part of the technology vocabulary. I was programming and building early AI agents in 1985 and 1986. Cloud computing came later, bringing a fundamentally different model: infrastructure delivered on demand, at massive scale, with a new economic and operational approach to consuming technology. But today, neither space stands alone. AI needs cloud-scale compute, data platforms, security, governance, deployment automation, and reliable operations. Cloud needs AI to become more autonomous, efficient, secure, adaptive, and valuable to the business. The services are coupled. The architectures are coupled. The outcomes organizations want are coupled. You cannot build a durable AI strategy without understanding the cloud foundation beneath it. You also cannot build a modern cloud strategy without understanding how AI will reshape the applications, operations, data, and business processes it supports. That overlap is where I intend to keep focusing. It is where the most important decisions are being made, where the most expensive mistakes can be avoided, and where practical thought leadership has the greatest value. Everything feels connected to me because it is connected. My goal is to keep helping organizations understand both sides—and, more importantly, how to make them work together.
