Another very promising performance from Trey Nyoni. Nurtured by Leicester, now flourishing at Liverpool. Unfazed facing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia of Chelsea last night. 19-year-old midfielder, impressing at 6 (can play 8), and clearly trusted by team-mates to take the ball under pressure. Kept taking up intelligent positions, occasionally splitting centre-backs or dropping into space for a pass from Virgil van Dijk.
Composed distribution encouraged further by Andoni Iraola, who wants Nyoni to be progressive in his passing, picking out the forwards when opportunity shows. Nyoni's qualities also include balance, press-resistance and fearlessness. Some well-timed interventions, including on Morgan Rogers, then turning away with the ball from Lavia. Dummy to deceive Valentin Barco.
Impressed in pre-season, developing well under Iraola, good alternative to Ryan Gravenberch when required. Also progressing through England age-groups: 16s, 17s, 18s, 19s, 20s and called into 21s earlier this month. Nyoni only 19, still developing and will learn so much around Van Dijk and others. Hugely promising future. #LFC
Think Iraola deserves far more credit than the general consensus seems to be right now, he’s lost ONE match at Liverpool, to City. They’re 3 wins from 3 in the UCL, on 15 points after 8 games (71-ish point pace), utilising Nyoni, Koumas, Rio, McConnell. They were one of the teams whose transfer business was most worrying, Araujo’s done well but RB, LB, central midfield, he’s managed those issues near-perfectly. Still so much to be improved on even from a coaching POV but in a transition season with a sub optimal “rebuild” in the summer, you couldn’t have asked for much more.

Plenty of positives to take from that game. Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni look like they're knocking loudly on the door of the starting XI. 👏
Wirtz looked sharp when he came on, the defence was solid throughout, and Mamardashvili produced a couple of excellent saves when called upon. 🧤
Lots to be excited about. Very happy with that performance. 😎🔴 #LFC

It's MENTALITY and I think that's what we're known for and we're always trying to uphold that standard, and I think we did that tonight. It was important that the lads kept on fighting, kept going until the end and we did that.” 🔴

Nyoni displayed so many facets of midfield today. I already made declarative statements during pre-season about him so won’t repeat again but to do this with McDonnell and the underperforming Grav v a near £200m midfield is testament to him as a teenager.

🔴 Liverpool Are Stirring, and Anfield Is Beginning to Believe
There was something deeply satisfying about Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brighton. A fourth consecutive win, a first home #PremierLeague triumph under Andoni Iraola, and perhaps the clearest indication yet that this side is developing the character required to compete against the leagues’ best sides.
Brighton deserve enormous credit. They arrived in magnificent form and played some excellent football, dominating possession and asking serious questions of Liverpool’s defensive organisation. Yet for all their territorial superiority, they managed a solitary shot on target.
Much of that was down to Ronald Araújo, who was, by some distance, my Man of the Match. The Uruguayan was immense. Five duels contested, five won, three tackles and an authority that seemed to grow with every Brighton attack. Jeremy Jacquet was excellent alongside him.
Further forward, there were encouraging signs of genuine understanding developing between Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola. The movement and combinations during the first half were particularly impressive, with Barcola’s determination creating Isak’s goal. Wirtz continues to blossom, making his injury withdrawal especially frustrating.
Cody Gakpo also contributed positively, although his decision-making on several promising counterattacks left me exasperated. There were opportunities to punish Brighton further, squandered through hesitation or a poorly timed release.
Nevertheless, this was a mature, disciplined performance against strong opposition.
#LFC have climbed to fourth, confidence is growing, and the players increasingly appear comfortable with Iraola’s demands.
Arsenal visit next weekend, offering another considerable examination of progress.
For now, Anfield can savour a victory of genuine significance.
Something is beginning to take shape here, and I rather like what I’m seeing.

🟥 Iraola's Liverpool Revival Faces Biggest Test Yet
There is a peculiar sense of anticipation surrounding Liverpool at present. The football remains imperfect, the vulnerabilities painfully familiar, yet something is stirring beneath the surface. Andoni Iraola's side are beginning to offer glimpses of a future worth believing in.
Brighton arrive at Anfield in formidable condition, third in the Premier League and playing with the confidence of a side that fears nobody. Four consecutive league victories, 15 goals scored and none conceded. Those figures demand respect.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are still searching for their first home league victory of the season. Three draws from three matches at Anfield represent a deeply unsatisfactory return for a club whose greatest achievements have so often been forged through the intimidation of visiting opponents.
Yet Tuesday's extraordinary victory over Villarreal offered encouragement. There were passages of football possessing genuine authority, moments when Liverpool's attacking movement and collective intensity suggested the beginnings of something substantial.
Florian Wirtz is growing in influence, Alexander Isak is finding goals, and young Rio Ngumoha has surely earned another opportunity. I would start him. His confidence must be soaring, and talent of that nature deserves encouragement.
Iraola deserves credit, too. His willingness to make difficult decisions and reward performances has brought fresh energy to a squad that desperately needed it.
Brighton will expose any defensive carelessness. I suspect both sides will score, and Liverpool's attacking quality will ensure a compelling afternoon.
Victory would provide an enormous psychological lift before Arsenal visit next weekend. I fancy Liverpool to compete fiercely, although midfield deficiencies mean I cannot quite convince myself they will keep Brighton out.
🔺 Predicted Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1):
Alisson; Araújo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Barcola; Isak
🔺 Score Prediction:
Liverpool 2-2 Brighton
