An ideal net zero target aims to mitigate GHG emissions to a level that reflects the VERY HIGH risk that CO2 removal does not scale, while aiming to develop CO2 removal technologies to a level that reflects the HIGH risk that sufficient mitigation may not be achieved.
Americans want rapid deployment of wind, solar, EVs, and heat pumps backed by firm thermal generation using fracked gas?

TL;DR Prices are going up, irrespective of climate policies, driven by reckless CapEx and increased competition. Not good for customers or investors.

Gas networks fees in Germany are on the rise.
This is because
a) fewer and fewer people use the gas network and
b) gas network assets are now depreciated faster to avoid stranded assets and costs later down the line as Germany approaches its 2045 net zero target.
Those who installed a new gas boiler following the advice from some commentators now find themselves with rising heating costs.

Vermont appears to be moving away from a Clean Heat Standard for building decarbonization. In its status report, the VT PUC notes the regulatory complexity in administrating such a program, which would involve substantial management and oversight costs. 1/2
Advice needed! Our 3 kids are getting cramped in the Prius and are insisting on a new car. How should I virtue signal? A used PHEV minivan emphasizes practicality. R1S shows that we can go full throttle into the energy transition, but it weighs 2x the Prius. Read 🧵 then vote!

But still, the minivan looks so practical...and practicality is a great thing!
Universities created a generation of ESG consultants who would have been better directed to go work for public utility commissions
This is happening everywhere - across all sectors and company sizes. Gnarly problem.
i) stakeholders want accountability and pressure for not meeting targets but not enough to trade off performance/returns and not willing to pay up for aggressive ambition
ii) companies getting minimal upside for being aggressive on targets yet punished for disclosures/targets that don't improve or get met even if competitors do far less. Sometimes, world's not ready or moving fast enough on the topic (e.g., plastics being one).
iii) no financial/legal ramifications of not hitting the target
What to do? Silence and hope it fades away...
For some reason, the first device I could think of using these for was my TI-89. Must be early September.

Many cold climate buildings with ground source heat pumps will need to run AC in the summer to "recharge" the earth so it is sufficiently warm in the spring.
