Here’s how sextortion works.
A predator gets an explicit image of a child, real or faked with AI, and uses it as a weapon. But not every predator wants the same thing, and what they want tells you which kind of sextortion it is:
•Sexually motivated: they want more images. It most often targets girls.
•Financially motivated: they want money. These predators often pose as a girl to get a teenage boy to send one image, then threaten to share it unless he pays.
•Sadistically motivated: they want to see a child suffer. They force kids to hurt themselves or others, and they record it.
No matter which kind it is, the predator is counting on your child’s silence. One conversation can break that.

Pornography doesn’t exist in a vacuum. The messages we consume can shape how we see others, what we expect from relationships, and what the next generation learns about women.
What happens when the man making decisions about your career regularly consumes content that objectifies women? When porn shapes expectations about intimacy in your relationship? When boys turn to pornography to learn about sex and how to treat women?
Research has found associations between pornography consumption and lower relationship satisfaction, as well as links between adolescent pornography use and gender-stereotypical sexual beliefs.
These conversations matter because the effects of pornography can extend beyond the individual viewer. It’s time to challenge the idea that what happens on a screen stays there.
