Released in 2020, Construction Token by @jeffgdavis is one of the three original projects that launched @artblocks_io. It went live alongside Snowfro’s Chromie Squiggle and DCA’s Genesis, and those first projects started what became the defining platform for long-form generative art.
Davis is an abstract artist who has exhibited around the world. He also founded Davis Editions, a publisher of limited-edition prints made with leading contemporary artists. Construction Token brings that background in abstraction and printmaking onchain. Its 500 iterations each come from a single algorithm, so every output is unique but clearly part of one visual system.
Davis later played a central role at Art Blocks. His 2025 series, Drawings for a Monument, looked back at the chromatic identity of the platform’s early Curated projects. The work that started that path is Construction Token.
Adding Construction Token to the OpenSea Flagship Collection recognizes a foundational work of onchain generative art and the artist who helped build it from the start.
