What do the Mets need to do this offseason?
40 YEARS AGO TODAY:
The Mets took down the Red Sox in a seven game series to win their second World Series in franchise history.
.@JimBowdenGM lists the following MLB free agents as the best fits for the Mets:
- Tarik Skubal, SP
- Michael King, SP
- Jake Bauers, 1B
.@JimBowdenGM predicts top SP free agent Tarik Skubal will sign a contract in the $350-$500 million range.
Bowden also lists the Mets as a “best fit” for the former Dodger.
Should the Mets pay Skubal 🤔⁉️
THAT SAYS $201M???
Freddy Peralta contract valuation from @spotrac: 7 years, $201M (28.75M AAV)
I just cannot see him landing a contract like that. His underlying metrics supported his underwhelming results this year and his strikeouts have evaporated this postseason. This screams recency bias.
How awesome would it be if the Mets SOMEHOW sign Clay Holmes back after trading him to the Cubs for their top prospect…
UPDATE
Clay Holmes is potentially open to returning to the Mets, per @chelsea_janes
“As of this week, he is expected to opt out of his current deal, and people familiar with his thinking say he is open to a return to the Mets if the right deal is offered.”

@ErikBeaston predicts Tarik Skubal will join the Mets in Free Agency:
“The Mets, though, are a young team with pieces in Carson Benge, AJ Ewing, and Nolan McLean that have them set up nicely for the future.
Add in future HOFers Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor and you have a team that, with the right coaching, is a World Series contender. Even more so with Skubal in the rotation.”
Francisco Lindor on winning the Roberto Clemente Award:
“It’s one of the most important awards in MLB because it’s not about myself”

Mets who have won the Roberto Clemente Award:
Gary Carter — 1989
Al Leiter — 2000
Carlos Delgado — 2006
Curtis Granderson — 2016
Francisco Lindor — 2026
Baseball’s most prestigious honor ❤️
Sounds like the Mets tbh
Freddy Peralta on his time with the Mets:
“I was feeling bad because I couldn't do anything for them when they had a lot of big expectations for me, the fans too in New York. They were waiting for something great from me."
