tBTC Pause and Security Update: November 2, 2026 tBTC remains fully backed, and no funds have been lost. Approximately 4,320 BTC is held in bridge wallets against roughly 4,185 tBTC in circulation, with no unauthorized minting or BTC movement detected. You can independently verify the on-chain backing through app.threshold.network/explor… ▶ Bridge Operations: Deposits, mints, and redemptions remain temporarily paused while the bridge completes security maintenance and enough operators are back online on fully patched systems. ▶ Linux Kernel (CVE-2026-98432): All tBTC nodes are either patched or remain offline. Because interim mitigations such as packet filtering reduce but don't eliminate the risk, we are working with node operators to move to fully patched systems, either by rebuilding on distributions that have already released the fix or by rebuilding it on Ubuntu once its official kernel patch is released. ▶ Security Reviews: Operators who have completed reviews of their systems have found no signs of compromise, and those reviews are continuing. Separately, the node operator that reported an unrelated infrastructure incident yesterday has found no evidence that its signing key material was accessed. As a precaution, that node remains offline. tBTC wallets require a majority of independent operators to sign any Bitcoin transaction, so no single operator can move funds. We will provide the next update within 48 hours, or sooner if there are material developments. We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete the necessary security measures.

As a routine, proactive step following @TheTNetwork’s maintenance update on tBTC, we’ve restricted new tBTC deposits and new borrows against tBTC on Aave. Aave’s contracts are not affected, existing positions remain unchanged, and users can continue to repay and withdraw as normal. Once maintenance is complete, new tBTC deposits and borrows will be available again.
tBTC minting and redemptions temporarily paused We have temporarily paused new BTC deposits/tBTC minting and new Bitcoin redemption requests through the Threshold app as a precaution while security maintenance is completed. Pending redemptions may still be paid on Bitcoin, but final settlement on Ethereum is paused and some transactions may be delayed. Please do not send BTC to previously generated deposit addresses or initiate new deposit/mint or redemption operations through alternative interfaces during this pause. If you have already deposited BTC, keep your deposit receipt and transaction hashes. Do not repeat the transaction to try to clear a pending status. You can continue checking its status in the app’s Explorer. This pause does not affect holding, transferring or using tBTC. We will share confirmed updates, including an estimated time for resuming normal operations when available, through Threshold’s official channels. Thank you for your patience.

tBTC pause and security update tBTC remains fully backed, and no funds have been lost. About 4,320 BTC sits in the bridge wallets against roughly 4,185 tBTC in circulation, and we've seen no unauthorized minting or movement of BTC. You can verify the backing on-chain here: app.threshold.network/explor… As a precaution against a recently disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability (CVE-2026-98432), which can allow remote code execution on unpatched servers, every tBTC node operator has either patched their servers or taken their nodes offline until a fixed kernel is available. So far, we have not found evidence that this vulnerability was used to exploit any tBTC node. Separately, earlier today, one node operator reported a security incident in its broader infrastructure, unrelated to the kernel vulnerability, in which the Ethereum account its tBTC node uses to pay transaction fees was drained of about 0.5 ETH. The operator's tBTC node was already offline at the time, and the operator has found no evidence that its signing key material was accessed. tBTC wallets require a majority of independent operators to sign any Bitcoin transaction, so no single operator can move funds. Bridge functionality will resume once security maintenance is complete and nodes are back online on patched systems. We'll post the next update within 24 hours, or sooner if anything changes.

The situation is contained and bridge functionality will resume once a full remediation is in place. tBTC continues to transfer normally on Ethereum and L2s. If you have a deposit or redemption in progress, it will complete after operations resume. Please don't send BTC to previously generated deposit addresses or repeat a transaction in the meantime. Bitcoin-backed lending reached $73.6 billion in 2025 and is projected to exceed $90 billion by the end of 2026. Threshold’s Verifiable Bitcoin Accounts enable institutions to participate in onchain lending while maintaining Bitcoin in segregated, auditable accounts. Here's how: threshold.network/blog/movin…

Better processing time, same Bitcoin. The tBTC bridge upgrade to Schnorr offers a leaner signing protocol, making minting and redemption faster than with the current ECDSA signatures.

tBTC's Q4 roadmap is focused on migration from ECDSA signing to FROST Schnorr. This update aims to tighten security, minimize bridge latency, and improve mint & redemption processing times. Here's a quick summary of the upcoming updates:

FROST verifies each signature share individually, so a faulty signer is identified immediately. Signing drops to two rounds and stays fast as the signer set grows. For more technical specifications, visit docs.threshold.network
