Dead Souls by #Gogol @BBCRadio4Extra surely one of the most amusing things you will ever hear. Brilliantly acted by #MichaelPalin & @TobyHadoke
One of my favourite radio jobs. Ever! Great script by Dan - every character’s joy. And WHAT. A. CAST. Aside from the obvious stars (all lovely) it was my first time working with one of the best under-sung actors in the business, Graeme Hawley, who is never less than brilliant.

This plea from Stephen McKenna encapsulates why it is so important to save Radio 4 Extra. It is the National Trust of our radio archives. @BBCRadio4Extra @RadioTimes theguardian.com/media/2026/o…
I think I shall watch The Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home tonight. Always enjoyed Walter Koenig as Chekhov. He was great in Babylon 5 too. Immortalised in popular culture forever : RIP sir xx

I made a little show as an extra for BBC Radio 4 Extra (pretty much in my own time): it’s being repeated to mark 20 years since the death of Nigel Kneale. This sort of bonus (dare I say it Reithian?) content will not be possible once the station goes:

Bad news: the BBC is set to scrap Radio 4 Extra. 📻 Losing this treasure trove of classic comedy, archive drama, and timeless storytelling would be a huge blow for millions of us.

Radio Times Editor Shem Law says BBC Radio 4 Extra is living proof that great broadcasting does not acquire a sell-by date – and we'll be losing more than just a radio station when it's turned off.

Do watch this if you can. In the next few days, there's going to be an episode of Smershpod with @TobyHadoke available.
And it's a good episode.

We are all saddened by the announcement that @R4Extra is scheduled for closure. Not only has the channel been the ideal outlet for the many programmes we have recovered, the staff have always been very encouraging, helpful, and, most importantly, have promoted what we do. (1/3)
I've just signed this petition to save BBC Radio 4 Extra.
Will you add your name and share too?

Foolish decision, but at least I have my collection of Hancock, Goons, and ISIRTA mp3s from back when the "listen again" version of R4X shows included bits of continuity from the likes of @TobyHadoke @officialnhaynes and this Butters person.

Very excited about @TobyHadoke’s Quatermass book. The 1st one was remarkable. This evening I’ve watched the existing two episodes of Experiment & am now re listening to Toby’s excellent Happy Times and Places commentary on them. Superb and recommended. Go listen!

au.rollingstone.com/movies/m… RIP Richard Riehle. You might not have known his name, but you certainly knew his face. Brilliant in Office Space, Casino, Bridesmaids and so much more. Over 400 film and TV credits, and he made everything he appeared in better.
On Sundays I observe Quatermass: on 1st Nov I will be introducing a thrilling double bill of Quatermass and the Pit (film) and Lifeforce at HOME, Mcr. Big trouble & frenzied destruction in London: sci-fi horror-tastic.
