Nandy wants to take state control beyond websites and platforms - and right into the devices you own
We say: stop digital ID and age verification systems that function as identity checks, plus device-level surveillance on apps and phones in the UK. Protect parental control and privacy. Protect the open internet.

OFCOM: Ofcom was set up to regulate telecoms and broadcasting in 2003. Today, it has more than 1,600 staff and a remit that reaches deep into what we see and say online.
There may be a legitimate role for tightly limited technical and economic regulation. That does not give the state a right to control lawful expression or decide which opinions reach an audience.
Many would argue Ofcom’s online speech remit should be removed, and we should explicitly prohibit regulatory interference in the ranking or promotion of lawful news and opinion.

This post goes some way to explaining the dire financial straits the UK is in...
"Britain has almost run out of taxpayers, or at the very least, it’s slowly running out of people who pay enough taxes to plausibly finance the state."
"...in 1998, about 43 per cent of British earners paid sufficient tax to cover the Government’s average per-capita spending. During Covid, that figure fell to an absolute low of circa 20 per cent, then by 2025 recovered modestly to 26.6 per cent."
No wonder if fewer than 27% of people are net contributors to the state
