When the gods came, he threw the net into the fire and leapt back into the falls. That is the opponent who dives, stalls and plays tricks, always one step from getting caught. Thor marched to the giant Geirröd's hall without his hammer. He carried a staff, iron gloves and a belt of strength, and that was enough. At the river Vimur, the giant's daughter drove the flood up to his shoulders. That is the opponent who presses high, floods the pitch with bodies and tries to drown you in your own half. Thor did not fight the whole river. He hurled a stone at its source. Find the man driving their press and shut him down. He seized a rowan tree on the bank and dragged himself across. When the game turns against you, grab what holds: your shape, your captain, the man beside you. In the hall, Geirröd hurled a glowing lump of iron at him.
