I was at the protests in France on Saturday. I鈥檓 so tempted to post videos of luxury shops being looted. But I鈥檇 just be one more person distracting from the real issues.
Saturday was first and foremost a march in solidarity with the students. They deserve to be heard, and to study in decent conditions.
The violence started in the buildings they call schools. They鈥檙e falling apart, rats roam the halls, and classrooms hit 40掳C in summer. On top of that, education budgets keep getting cut and teachers are missing, mostly because they鈥檙e underpaid.
If you don鈥檛 properly invest in youth, you compromise their future.
France鈥檚 youth has a will to survive. This is them gasping for air while being choked by Macron鈥檚 policies (or lack of them).

First things I look at when I start working with an early-stage team (product live, no clear PMF yet):
ICP: Who are we building for? If we don't know, figuring that out is priority number one. Hard to assess PMF when you're unclear on whose problem you're solving.
Runway: How much time do we have to get there? That's the clock for everything else. A short runway means only bets that can show a signal fast make the cut. If cash is getting tight, we need to reduce burn, bring in revenue or raise funding.
Current partners, users and power users: Who already gets the product and could champion it? Talk to them, act on the feedback that fits your ICP, and give them a reason to root for you.
Ignore them and they go quiet, or start rooting for someone else.
What gets built next: I've worked with devs building genuinely exciting stuff. I get it, it's exciting, I respect the craft. But whether it's a company or a protocol, it needs a way to keep the lights on. An exciting feature still needs a reason to be next on the roadmap.
So for every feature, I ask:
- Does this solve an important problem for our ICP or unblock something critical? If there's potential, build in an early feedback loop and test, test, test.
- What value could it create, and how much effort will it take?
- What happens if we wait? What counts as value depends on your stage: logos and partners for social proof, future revenue (how much, how likely, and when?), or actual revenue, which is the easiest to measure.
The roadmap comes out of 1 to 3: what gives your early users a reason to stay, moves you toward your goals, within the runway you actually have?
If something takes a lot of effort and has weak evidence behind it, trust me, it can wait.
