Sunday morning thoughts: we turn on the game or go to the game living on the shallow assumption we understand football…. We do… but because we are blinded to a degree by our fandom, we rarely look at the game with a truly critical eye…. Instead we assume the talent is adequate, we assume the game plan is to shut down or win every snap and possession…It’s just more nuanced. The defense is bad… it’s really bad on the edges. It’s hard to tell if the secondary is bad because the opposing QB is almost NEVER under duress … but the “fire the coach crowd” just lives in a reactionary, emotional state. As coaches, I would imagine that they, more than anyone, are aware about our personnel shortcomings. I would imagine that Eric Morris looks at his team and has to figure out the best way for “this team to win”…. I don’t think we, as fans, really study, or prepare for a game remotely enough to evaluate a performance or style of play to a degree to be qualified to say some of the things we say…. Me included … especially me…. But I’ll say this, if I’m Eric Morris… if I’m trying to build a complimentary style of play to win with the wealth of offensive talent we have and at the same time with the deficiencies we have on defense, I would probably build like this: I know I can’t lock down an opposing offense…. But I have to “get stops” at timely moments because my offense is seemingly only stopped by itself at this point…. So I am asking my defense to get in a position to make a stop when we have to have it and our offense will keep us alive… At Houston, the offense didn’t hold up its end of the bargain early….. last night, the kicking game created circumstances that forced an already deficient unit to play twice as hard… Last night was an awful defensive performance…. Awful….. But…. Late in the game, they got a stop… we took the lead… we didn’t get the second stop to seal the win… The point of this diatribe is to say, that maybe, this is the only way for this team to win…. The defense found answers at half against UCF and Colorado. Found none last night….. But….. But But But… as bad as the defense was…. Two extra possessions given to IsU by the kicking game, kept Drew off the field two additional times…. That’s how you lose shootouts ….. We gotta recruit… we gotta get pieces up front…. It’s a bad defense …. But it’s the defense we got…. We have to root for stops…. 5-3…. Disappointing this AM… hurts….. by the way… if you’re a OG Cowboy fan, Ames, Iowa certainly didn’t claim your virginity last night… Bounce back…. Another house of OsU nightmares next week… max the season out!

Defense was bad…. But…. When you play bend and don’t break, you can’t overcome two critical special teams turnovers and a missed FG…. 17 points there and 17 our offense didn’t have the chance to score…. 31 point swing on three plays potentially…. Put it on the defense.. fine… the defense not the only culprit….

If anyone cares to learn football, ISU is picking on our Left DE…. All game…. Over and over and over…. “Why don’t we put more guys over there and help?” Yeah… you still have to line up sound, and they also are outnumbering us with heavy sets…. They found a weak spot… and they’re going at it….. We ain’t playing well, we ain’t coaching great… but ISU has found a matchup…. Or…. You could just scream “fire the coach”…. Because that’s a nuanced football take

Quit laying in a zone when you get them behind the chains

Yall worried about the defense…… laughable… the defense isn’t a stonewall unit… but if the kicking game is going to keep putting them in minus situations, they won’t be good… Two extra possessions given up by the kicking game and the defense has actually gotten us a possession….

My Stillwater homecoming trip review: 1) Stillwater is alive.BPS was awesome. PREGAME ATMOSPHERE WAS ELECTRIC.. And it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the strip that crowded with that much buzz in Stillwater.. hats off to the kids for their work at America’s greatest homecoming and for their play to make it special for the old heads. 2) quit worrying about the big 12 title game. Ames, Iowa and Manhattan Kansas have provided us with almost every nightmare We have suffered for 20 years. Let’s go win one game and then try to win another and let the big 12 sort itself out. 3) a lot of one high safety and cover three in the first half. Two high safeties, mixing up two man and robber in the second half. All the X panickers need to just enjoy the ride stop fretting and let these guys do their thing. 4) enjoy 17, 10, 24, and zero. You’ll be able to see them on Sundays. 5) George’s tried to take me down but yet again it failed Love my Cowboys! Love Stilly! Can’t wait to be back in three weeks

Woke up and I refused to be glass half empty… so many new guys. A lot of of us wanna be down on the secondary last night but most of us don’t even know who those guys are or where they came in from. I think we have a good team. We’re gonna have a special season. We might play for the big 12 title. We might go 7-5…. It’s football. But I know this. Every time we win it’s one more win and one of the most remarkable single season turnarounds in college football history…. Tough game last night. Great game last night…. We certainly got exposed in some areas…. But we were in it…. Time for Coach prime to come get some.

Any OSU Twitter peeps want to comment on UH’s defense in the second half? Or…. Is our defense the only problem and the offense is terrific and I think like a loser? Anyone care to help?

Final thoughts: I love what we are becoming. Two elitely coached teams… Willie Fritz is really good… two amazingly elite offensive skill groups… I am not at all down about our Cowboys. Upset we lost. Wondering why UH never held up front with all those runs. I recognize we need edge help and secondary improvement on defense .. but…. This still has potential to be an amazing run. Let’s get home and get ready to crush the Buffs …. Loyal and true all day every day
