Deadly shooting in Kraków’s Main Market Square: 6 killed, 15+ injured.
Suspect shot and detained by police.
On Saturday, 7 November 2026, shortly after 15:00 local time, a 24-year-old Polish man drove a black Subaru into Kraków’s historic Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) near Sławkowska Street and opened fire at random people from the vehicle.
He was wearing military-style clothing and a balaclava, and used a long firearm (reports point to an AR-15 style rifle).
He continued shooting as he drove through the Old Town.
Police intervened quickly.
The first shots at the attacker came within about three minutes of the initial report.
He was stopped roughly 1.5 km away near the intersection of Dietla and Stradomska streets after an exchange of fire.
Officers shot and wounded him.
He is in hospital under police guard and has undergone surgery.
He acted alone.
Casualties:
6 people killed (4 women and 2 men; one of the identified victims was a foreigner).
Around 15–16 people injured, including two police officers.
One officer is in serious/critical condition.
What is known about the attacker:
He is a 24-year-old Polish citizen born in 2002, from the Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski area in the Świętokrzyskie region.
Unofficial reports name him as Michał O., a turner by trade.
He was not a soldier and had no prior criminal record according to police.
He held a firearms licence.
Multiple additional firearms and large amounts of ammunition were found in his car.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said preliminary findings indicate the man held radical views and was fascinated by extreme right-wing ideologies.
Investigators are searching his home.
The exact motive and origin of the weapons are still under investigation.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the incident as a “zamach,” expressed deep condolences to the families, and praised the police for their rapid and brave response.
Other officials, including the President and Defence Minister, also issued statements.
The area was secured, emergency services (including an air ambulance) responded quickly, and an extraordinary government meeting was called.
This was a soft-target attack in one of Europe’s busiest medieval squares and a major tourist site.
The full investigation continues. #krakow #KrakowAttack #attack #PolandAttack
