NFTs are becoming so much more than just JPEGs. In many ways, for NFTs, it's like the joke about Bitcoin, that it has already died X number of times. Except for NFTs, most people think they are still dead. The T in NFT stands for token. For me, tokens are the killer app of blockchains. At this point, the heads of banks are saying that the future of finance is tokenization, but not a lot of people include NFTs in that picture. NFTs are one-of-one tokens, and there are a lot of assets that are one-of-ones. A house is a one-of-one. A car is a one-of-one because every car has a unique condition. Recently, NFTs have been used as the root of identity for AI agents. The tokenization of agents has a potential TAM (total addressable market) of basically the sum total of all current and future labor. It's a giant market. I think that 2026 will, in many ways, be considered the year that NFTs stopped being just JPEGs and started to be part of the larger tokenization narrative that will eventually lead to all the world's assets, including labor, coming onchain.

NFTs are more than JPEGs. Behind every piece of art, there's an artist. Behind every artist, there's a story. The problem is, Web3 often talks more about floor prices than the people creating the art. What if we changed that? More art. More recognition. More artists supporting artists. Let's make art matter again.

“For me, existence itself is a form of protest.” — Osinachi ✨ Happy birthday to the talented Osinachi! @osinachiart Osinachi makes paintings in Microsoft Word about subjects that matter deeply to him, drawing on his own experiences to speak about Black identity, social expectations and the freedom to be oneself. In RED/MUG (2025), he considers how political and social uncertainty enters our private lives. The figure’s isolation suggests the vulnerability of navigating a world in which belonging and security can feel fragile. The work was featured in Iconoclast, his solo presentation as part of our program at Digital Art Mile in Basel in 2025. Image: Osinachi, RED/MUG, 2025.

At first I was like haha wtf Threads? Then I removed my nostalgia for Twitter and admitted to myself X is a dead internet platform that’s likely already majority automated accounts that I’m increasingly depressed using and being exposed to.
JUST IN: Mark Zuckerberg says Threads has surpassed X in monthly active users

NFTs will make a comeback. It’s a matter of when, not if
NFTs are an area of crypto that i think deserves another look the 2021 boom and subsequent crash left a lot of people with a negative view of them, but the underlying concept still makes sense to me as more businesses move onchain, NFTs could become a useful way to represent ownership, experiment with revenue sharing and build communities around products i expect there's still a lot of room for experimentation beyond the NFT models we saw last cycle
