Ratio. Using bar models set up like this...(I used to always use one long bar with a ‘splitter’) (Question idea stolen from @StudyMaths) Y11 nailed anything to do with ratio in the mocks.

Teaching from self-isolation, I had some time to kill during a lesson, so I made up this question (for a Top Set Year 11) that I have not seen before. I was surprised how well they coped.

Discussed a lesson on comparing fractions in our SMS meeting today and I scribbled an @openmiddle problem down. I think I quite like it. It’s a little trickier if you insist on having only solutions where the fractions are in their lowest terms.

so this was a nice Q to ask year 10 set 2 today.

This proof of Pythagoras wonderfully connects a circle theorem with gradients of perpendicular lines and a difference of two squares. Perfect for interleaving concepts. #beautyofmaths

(4/5) Finally, piece them together to get the following rectangle. And it is a rectangle, since the two non-right angles of a triangle add up to 90°.

#mtbos #iteachmath #MathEd This activity can serve as review or assessment of understanding of y = mx + b: Answer without actually graphing: given two linear functions, do the lines meet to the left or right of the y-axis? Worksheet: mathed.page/lessons/left-or-…

Here's a fun geometry puzzle. Given two overlapping circles, one of radius 1, the other radius 2, with the smaller circle centred on the circumference of the larger, what is the area of the overlapping region? #puzzle #geometry

Maths is a beautiful thing. What's the sum of the first 100 cube numbers?!

Question for any maths teachers - would you say that the factors of 6n are 1, 2, 3, 6, n, 2n, 3n and 6n? What if n isn't an integer?! Or is there a formal definition of the factors of an algebraic term? I'd be interested in any thoughts...
