I got feedback from devs that key value pairs would be too limiting, so I updated the metadata proposal to use JSON instead. My worry with allowing arbitrary metadata is that it will wind up being messy and unattractive when presented to the user on an inscription page. To avoid this, I included a guide on how JSON will be is rendered into HTML for display, which hopefully will allow inscribers to structure their metadata such that it's tidy and attractive when rendered.

I opened a PR with a proposal for adding metadata to inscriptions. It is intentionally simple, supporting only plain-text key-value pairs. Plain-text key-value pairs covers the vast majority of use-cases, avoids adding a dependency on a serialization format like JSON, and is human readable and easy to display without a schema.
