This topic came up on @Protestia recently, thought I'd add my thoughts.
In my recent book, *Abuse, Abandonment, and Divorce* I make an exegetical case that abuse is a form of abandonment. "Abandonment" defined as "packing suitcases and leaving" is an anachronistic superimposing of a modern concept on the text of 1 Cor 7. I show in the book that Scripture recognizes that abandonment can happen under the same roof when understood in light of the biblical definitions in 34 places of "reviling." Much too deep an issue for an X post, but there are abused women today--heard from one YESTERDAY--who are being disciplined in their churches while their reviling husbands are smelling like roses. It is my hope that those who disagree with abuse as a form of abandonment will at least consider the contents of this book. Agree or disagree but at least you will have heard a reasonable exegetically-based argument for the view. Many Puritans (I cite them) considered abuse as a form of marital abandonment, often called "constructive desertion."
FYI, my book is endorsed by some recognized folks in the biblical counseling world. Dr. John Street, Dr. Shelbi Cullen, others.

“Does the Bible address the issue of divorce and abuse? Although Scripture does not provide explicit teaching on this topic, Dr. Swartz examines relevant exegetical issues to offer guidelines on what truly constitutes abandonment. In a clear and detailed manner, Dr. Swartz presents a compelling argument that unrepentant abuse may, in fact, qualify as a form of abandonment, thus providing one of the rare circumstances in which God permits the mercy of divorce.”

Check it out.
