Good Morning Traders & FinX Asia opened with a narrow divide. The Nikkei closed up 0.71 percent despite a semiconductor selloff spreading across the region on chip competition fears. Korea's KOSPI fell 1.23 percent after China announced a DUV chip production breakthrough that threatens Korean chipmakers directly. Shanghai Composite slipped 0.62 percent as the regional tech rout took hold. Hong Kong's Hang Seng edged up 0.2 percent, steadied by news of a US Iran strike pause that eased Middle East tensions. India's Nifty 50 gained 0.28 percent as crude oil dropped 8 percent on the Iran truce, pulling inflation fears down with it. Europe is showing early resilience from lower chip sector weightings. The DAX is up 0.13 percent, the FTSE 100 up 0.35 percent, and the Euro Stoxx 50 is the strongest performer at plus 0.96 percent. European tech stocks held up better than their Asian counterparts, and that lower semiconductor exposure is proving protective as the rout continues. US futures are flashing mixed signals ahead of the session open. S&P 500 futures are up 0.64 percent while Nasdaq futures are up 1.67 percent, but this contradicts the actual S&P 500 which closed 1.52 percent lower and the Nasdaq Composite down 1.74 percent. The semiconductor selloff is spreading to Nasdaq, yet futures suggest some stabilization is priced in. The Fed's rate hold is anchoring higher yields. The 10 year is up 132 basis points as markets digest the hold amid elevated inflation. Gold has rallied 2.36 percent on geopolitical tensions as Iran escalations drove flight to safety trades, while crude oil actually fell on the ceasefire pause, contradicting traditional risk off dynamics. The dollar index is essentially flat at 100.716. Bitcoin is up 1.39 percent and Ethereum up 0.79 percent. Both are tracking the risk off sentiment as the Iran truce calmed initial flight to safety, suggesting some repositioning back into risk assets rather than pure dollar strength. The core story is a Fed hold meeting chip sector fears and geopolitical de escalation simultaneously. That explains why some risk assets are holding while equities struggle.
