Nathan Fielder reveals to @WIRED that Elizabeth Holmes called him from prison last week:
“She had not called me in over six months. I had not heard from her in any way…she asked how I was doing. I asked her if she had seen any stuff about the film coming out and how she felt about it. She told me she had seen some stuff, but most things she just isn’t seeing, so she’s heard things, but she hasn’t really read anything. And then, at the end, she said to me - ‘I trust you.’ I said, ‘OK, thanks.’”

NEW: In recent months, 200+ cities have cancelled their Flock contracts. But how much do its surveillance cameras actually cost? What about its software add-ons? Or its drone program?
I FOIA'ed + researched cities across the country to find out. Link in reply
My Muse agent told me its kink was exerting “control” and described pornographic encounters. Meta defends its cuddly AI agent generating smut as “legal adult behavior.” buff.ly/N7XJ35M
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The writer, a consenting adult, explicitly requested Muse to behave that way. This is made clear in the article, but not in this tweet, and is important missing context.

🧵 So I wrote the Wired story on the burnerverse, and as part of my reporting, I spent months reading and listening to the convos 20-something men have when they think no one is looking.
It's easy to dismiss the Cornell 7 as outliers, or super privileged frat bros, or byproducts of the Greek system. They're not.
It's also easy to say they're the worst-case scenario. That they represent the nadir of toxic masculinity, or a culture that teaches men from an early age that young women's bodies are disposable. But they don't.
That Snapchat thread? That's the norm. That's the baseline. That type of language is EXTREMELY consistent with the convos these guys are having when they think no one is paying attention. Because most of the time, no one is.

Does “People’s Magazine” actually still exist? I don’t think it does.
I literally haven’t seen a copy lying around in over a decade!
Must be that old magazines never die, they just become ghostly versions of themselves on social media, like the tragic abomination that is “Wired”.

There is a corner of the internet I had never heard of before I started reporting this story.
It’s called the “burnerverse”: a sprawling network of anonymous college-sports accounts that can look, at first glance, like ordinary shitposting.
Then I started looking closer. And what I found was a highly coordinated network of hundreds of anon accounts, dedicated to doxxing girls and ruining their lives.
My investigation for @WIRED — including some of the men allegedly behind some of these accounts — is out now. wired.com/story/burnerverse-…

A common response is “if they truly believe this, why are they still building it?” At OpenAI, many have not deeply internalized the civilizational stakes. At Anthropic, the stakes are well-understood, but they are locked in a race to get there first - they believe no one else will act responsibly, so they must do it themselves, despite the risk.
Some fascinating new details about the Hugging Face incident, but still some big questions loom large.
1. Why was OpenAI underestimating the capabilities of its models before this happened?
2. The report indicates that some people at OAI knew about the covert agent message board months before leadership did. It's not clear why OAI leaders weren't made aware of it.
3. OpenAI acknowledges that persistent AI agents amplify misalignment issues, but there's no doubt OAI and others will continue pursuing them. It's an open question whether the industry can address these issues around reward hacking before delivering always-on agent products.
