As the Department of War stands up new tactical units to take the fight to threats across the Hemisphere, the decisive factor remains the same one that has determined outcomes throughout history; the ability to sustain the force at the point of need.
I recommend prioritizing investment in additional Petroleum Quality Analysis System-Enhanced (PQAS-E) systems and embedding them organically with these new formations. The PQAS-E is a mobile, self-contained fuel laboratory that delivers B-level quality surveillance (per MIL-STD-3004-1 W/ Change 1) on JP-8, diesel, and other mobility fuels in hours rather than days, directly at the tactical edge.
This capability is what enables units to go anywhere, anytime, and remain self-sustained in austere or contested environments until DLA Energy can establish more permanent support. Contaminated or degraded fuel is a silent mission killer; it aborts aviation sorties, immobilizes ground forces, and collapses operational tempo. Years of reductions in these systems have eroded the very freedom of action and risk mitigation the Department of War is restoring.
Embedding PQAS-E with the new units is not a logistics afterthought. It is a tactical enabler that directly supports Department of War priorities, maximizing operational reach, protecting high-value platforms, maintaining initiative against hemispheric threats, and ensuring readiness that does not depend on fixed infrastructure or host-nation support. Fuel quality assurance at the tactical level is how we keep the fight moving.
Recommend reversing the underinvestment trend and fielding more PQAS-E now. Rest assure @Southcom @CENTCOM would probably welcome this.
