Police have arrested three suspects following an alleged simple robbery involving UGX 11 million on Thursday morning near Mama Supermarket in Lira City. According to North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Okema, the victim, 32-year-old Uganda Martyrs University student Ogwal Francis, was targeted after withdrawing UGX 20 million from Stanbic Bank and an additional UGX 11 million from KCB Bank. Three occupants of a Toyota Rumion (Reg. No. UBR 845U including 25-year-old Ninsiima Prisca, snatched the UGX 11 million and sped off along Kampala Road. Ogwal raised the alarm, leaped onto the vehicle's bonnet, and smashed the windscreen to hold on as the suspects fled toward Kole District. The vehicle eventually stopped at Otangula village in Kole District, where an enraged mob chased the suspects into nearby bushes, leading to Ninsiima’s arrest alongside two male accomplices who were apprehended in Aboke. Police recovered and towed the vandalized getaway vehicle to the station, though the stolen funds remain unrecovered. Police suspect the perpetrators operated on an internal tip-off regarding the bank transactions and have launched full investigations under a opened case file at Lira City West Division. #UnityAt25 | #UnityfmNews

The Lira High Court has dismissed an election petition filed by Queen Dorothy Amolo against Oyam South MP Patrick Ogwang Obura, ordering her to pay all legal costs. In a ruling delivered by Justice Fatima Bwanika, the court rejected claims that the Electoral Commission confused voters by listing the petitioner as "Queen Dorothy Alweny" on the ballot, noting that her photo and details were clearly printed and that she failed to verify her name during the 2021 candidate proofreading exercise. Defense counsel Joram Edonu confirmed the dismissal, while Ogwang Obura and Oyam NRM Chairperson Bosco Onyik Ogwal welcomed the verdict, stating it secures the constituency's representation and allows the leadership to focus on local development. #UnityAt25 | #UnityfmNews

Government Chief Whip Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has directed the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to present a comprehensive statement to Parliament on the suspension of land registration services across the ministry's zonal offices. The directive followed procedural concerns raised by Bbaale County MP Charles Tebandeke, who questioned why the public and Parliament had not received a formal government statement regarding the ongoing suspension, which he warned is crippling economic activities and real estate transactions nationwide. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa confirmed that the Minister of Lands will appear on the Order Paper on Thursday to deliver the official statement, instructing ministers to present policy guidelines directly to Parliament rather than issuing external directives without legislative oversight. #UnityAt25 | #UnityfmNews

Police at Lira City Central Police Station (CPS) have opened an investigation into Daniel Okello, the former Speaker for Lira City West Division, over the alleged fraudulent receipt of government livestock restocking funds intended for a person living with disabilities. According to an official letter dated October 17, 2026, issued by ASP Muyeyero Godfrey Fearless, Okello was summoned to report immediately to the police station regarding general inquiry file GEF: 22/2026. The probe follows a formal request by Lira City Town Clerk Tom Miri on October 15, 2026, asking police to investigate how Okello, who is not a resident of Junior Quarters was registered to receive the funds. The victim, 43-year-old Pamela Adero, a person with disabilities residing in Ujama Cell, Junior Quarters Ward, revealed that Junior Quarters Town Agent Tom Calvin Omong claimed her name had been deleted from the system by a computer error. However, official disbursement records indicate that Daniel Okello received the funds on May 11, 2026, under Adero’s initial registry allocation. Adero further stated that after she reported the matter, Okello contacted her and issued threats demanding she abandon the case. #UnityAt25 | #UnityfmNews

StarTimes Uganda Premier League side Blacks Power FC is contemplating moving its home matches to the Bukedea Comprehensive School Complex Stadium in Bukedea District. Reports originally published by Kawowo Sports indicate that the decision follows the National Council of Sports (NCS) banning the club and Kitara FC from using the Hoima Stadium due to non-compliance with national sports infrastructure standards. Blacks Power FC officials noted that the Bukedea venue represents a return to their roots, as the club originally played there under its former identity, Bukedea Town Council FC, prior to rebranding and relocating to Lira. However, Blacks Power FC Public Relations Officer Abel Ogwang clarified that the relocation remains a rumor for now, advising fans to await an official club announcement. #UnityAt25 | #UnityfmNews
