👉👉👉Read a new Op-Ed by Ruth Furtado who spent time in both non-profit and for-profit nursing homes as a middle-aged woman with #MS. "Integral to improving resident care is improving the way staff are treated, supported and paid." #ResidentsRightsMonth
Commentary from Ruth Furtado: October is Residents' Rights Month, which honors people living in long-term care facilities. Honoring residents is not enough: In R.I., we need intervention to overhaul the system and give residents the quality care they need. trib.al/dmEzzQU

Long term care residents deserve better. That's why Rhode Island needs the #WorkforceStandardsBoard and a commitment to enforce nursing home #safestaffing
Marjorie Mann has been a CNA for 15 years & saw how for-profit care can rob residents of their safety & dignity. This #ResidentsRightsMonth we must renew the call for safe long term care - that starts with the #WorkforceStandardsBoard

Such a great day, coming together and sharing ideas around our common mission to protect vulnerable older Rhode Islanders! Thanks to all of the presenters, and @AGNeronha & @AARPRI for convening!
Our 2024 Elder Justice Summit was a full day of learning new ways to protect RI’s older adults from physical, emotional, & financial harm. With advocates from diverse areas of expertise, we shared insights and information, recommitting ourselves to protecting our older adults.

A resident’s comfort, happiness, or distress can often be communicated through gestures, facial expressions, or posture. Let’s be mindful and ensure all residents feel heard and understood. #WorldSmileDay #NationalBodyLanguageDay #ResidentsRights

It’s hard enough for nursing home administrators to hire good staff at poverty wages. Why do we have to keep employees’ multiple accusations and terminations a secret from them, too? 6/6 @AGNeronha

The most distressing part of all of these stories is that it takes SO MANY incidents before DOH imposes ANY disciplinary action. So there was no way for THIS facility to know the nurse was fired from the LAST one for neglect 6 months before… 1/6 golocalprov.com/news/rhode-i…

RI General Assembly candidates: have you visited your constituents residing in the nursing homes & assisted livings in your districts yet while campaigning this year? It’s a great time to meet with residents—resident council presidents, especially—& hear their concerns!

“These facilities are just continuing to do the same things they’re going to do because there hasn’t been systemic change.” Rapid growth in this sector without adequate staff training and better policy/accountability is a recipe for disaster. npr.org/sections/shots-healt…
