Simon from @ACTPedalPower is absolutely on the money here: the ACT Government talks a big game about the active travel and public transport projects, large and small, we need to improve our city. But they're *oh so slow* at delivering them.

Spot on. Ridiculous that the NCA can afford $16k for heritage assessments on floating saunas but can’t stump up the money for proper pedestrian crossings in the national triangle.

The National Capital Authority website has an entire section for car parking that gets its own tab on the front page / top banner, yet the site includes no information about bus routes or bus stops in the National Triangle.

Was great to support Pedal Power's petition today. It's time we put people - not just cars - first when it comes to Canberra's infrastructure investment. More homes + great active travel infrastructure = better connected communities + lower emissions.

This is the transport mix we want to see in cities. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere.

On the one hand, @baizhijie’s great animated NYC map is inspiring because it shows a city building a protected bike network over time (26 years) & successive governments.
On the other hand, WE DON’T HAVE TIME to go that slow anymore.
Further, faster.

The most important thing about this amazing Paris transformation is how fast it happened — how fast people on bikes “appeared” — once streets were transformed. You can’t write this off as “#Paris was always this way,” because it wasn’t. It took leadership.

One of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS your city could do to become more healthy, sustainable, livable, affordable, equitable, successful — stop pretending to “balance” transportation modes, and commit to PRIORITIZING walking/rolling, biking, public transit. HT @dublincycling’s graphic

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via @thediscourse study.
This isn’t just about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice.

One of the most simple and powerful city-building projects your city could do would be to transform its street intersections to prioritize people and life over cars and speed. We know how. It just takes will. Graphic via the always clever @LiorSteinberg.

For various reasons, not everyone in Canberra can ride, walk or take public transport in their daily lives.
A major (not the only) reason for this is decades of planning and investment for car-centric infrastructure. Investment in other modes is only *starting* to catch up.
