Will AI affect our critical thinking?
Socrates worried writing would "create forgetfulness in the learners' souls" (Phaedrus). We kept writing and learned to guard memory on purpose.
The majority have not developed critical thinking skills, having been told what and how to think by politics, media and society. Added to doomscrolling, binge-watching and consuming toxins add up to an all-round anti-critical-thinking condition we've suffered for generations.
If people use AI as another medium for laziness and irrational consumption it will steer their reality. If they use it as the fastest, most powerful tool in history to learn and grow, it may advance their thinking beyond comprehension.
Any thoughts on this?
The Thought That Thinks Itself Aware
Every thought drips into another, becoming something else, something more. Even when it seemed pointless, irrational even, it was a reference point for what was or was not to come.
Sci-fi is a wonderful portal for the imagination. Yet not entirely fiction. The message is always in the story, and metaphorically, our thoughts, decisions, choices and chance interactions, are portals to another path of possibility.
