This needs looking into! The Spanish Government will have to explain this to the European Union. 🤬
Spain began three days of mourning Thursday after at least 69 people were killed and dozens more were injured in the country’s deadliest train crash in decades. But anger is mounting about allegations of incompetence that allowed the accident to happen, and protesters clashed with police overnight outside the country’s Transportation Ministry in Madrid.
Once considered one of the country’s crowning achievements, Spain’s high-speed rail network had not endured a deadly crash since it came into service over 30 years ago.
After the second train accident in less than a year, the tragedy has deepened the feeling among many that there is something broken in the Spanish transportation system.

GO TRANSIT VIGNETTE: GO F59PH 564 brings a string of empty bilevels around the curve and into Hamilton GO Centre on a June morning in 1998. At the time, GO's three morning trains from Hamilton would be brought from Willowbrook Yard, two of them coupled together. The 564's train would be the last to depart on this day and as such, it was pulled past the platform to the east until the first train of the morning departed and vacated the inside track. Today, there is a storage yard for GO trains at this location and this equipment move is no longer necessary. Photographer "GO564" captured GO F59PH 564 on the CP Hamilton Subdivision in Hamilton, Ontario, on June 1998.

Between Caledonia and Fort Erie, Ontario not much remains intact of the former CN Dunnville Subdivision. A small section remains on either side of the Welland canal in Port Colborne with the west side operated as needed by GIO Rail. This track survives today simply to serve the port as well as a tank car storage yard at the very west end of town. Long gone are the days of through trains here. GIO Rails slug set is interesting as mother unit 7224 is in GIO paint while the slug is painted for Locomotive rebuilder LDS, both are former CN, with the slug built from a retired S-3, and can only be connected to the mother unit from one end. The set is seen leaving the tank storage yard with a lone car as the head back towards the north end of town to work more industries. The switch in the foreground heads down to the harbor.
Photographer Marcus Stevens captured GIO Rail Slug (LDSX 269), and GIO GP9RM 7224 on the ex-Dunnville Subdivision in Port Colborne, Ontario, on October 26, 2026. canadianrailwayobservations.…
CPR MLW VIGNETTE: On Wednesday the 23rd of April in 1975 photographer A.W. Mooney noted as his day off work and since it had all the indications of being a great day to head out, He drove from home (St. Catharines) down toward Bayview and at the suggestion of a friend (Bill McArthur) then drove over to the TH&B roundhouse area at Chatham Street (off Dundurn) to kill a bit of time as it was quiet at the junction. Besides a few TH&B units, this old CP RS10 8599 was looking pretty good, as by this time there were not all that many units left in the old script paint scheme. The 8599 was retired, along with most of the others in this group by 1984 and I have wondered if this unit survived long enough to get repainted into the "action' red. Photographer A.W.Mooney took this shot of CP RS10 8599 in Chatham Street Yard in Hamilton, Ontario, on April 23, 1975. canadianrailwayobservations.…
