According to Von Der Leyen, "since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, imported fossil fuels cost Europe an additional €127bn without a single molecule of energy in addition." Yup, the very same Von Der Leyen who at the very beginning of the war - when the US and Israel attacked - said she supported regime change in Iran (euronews.com/2026/03/01/iran…). The geopolitical equivalent of cheering on the guy sawing off the branch you're sitting on, then acting shocked when you hit the ground. Which is pretty much a European specialty at this stage...
Startling figure from VDL speech today: "Since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, imported fossil fuels cost Europe an additional €127bn without a single molecule of energy in addition." That works out about €281 per EU resident, 67% of the EU's entire annual budget

Not one single person believes this is true. Israel doesn't believe it. Washington doesn't believe it. Nobody reading about it in the New York Times believes it. But we're hearing about it anyway like it's a real thing, because too many powerful people want more bombing in Iran.
BREAKING: Israel has informed the United States it has intelligence that Iran is 'considering the use of chemical weapons against its adversaries', according to New York Times report.

“China doesn't have elections! Every Election Day proves America is better than China!” Does holding elections automatically make the United States a better country than China? I don't believe so. And today's midterm elections are a perfect example of why👇 Today, millions of Americans will head to the polls to vote. If Democrats win both the House and Senate, they'll control Congress and have the power to block much of Trump's legislative agenda for the next two years. But think about the incredible irony here. For millions of Americans, the BEST possible outcome of this election is simply preventing the other side from accomplishing anything. That's it. Not building better infrastructure. Not improving healthcare. Not investing in education. Not fixing America's crumbling public transportation systems. Just stopping the other party. We've reached a point where political gridlock is celebrated as a victory. And somehow, we're supposed to believe this automatically makes our political system superior to China's? Let's look at the other side. China doesn't have competitive national elections where citizens can vote the Communist Party out of power. That's a fact. China is governed by the CPC, although eight other legally recognized political parties also exist. But here's the fundamental difference I see between these two systems: In America, you CAN change the party, but you often CAN'T change the policy. In China, you CAN'T change the ruling party, but you CAN change the policy. For decades, Americans have elected Republicans and Democrats who promise change. Yet Washington continues pouring enormous resources into overseas military operations while Americans struggle with healthcare costs, aging infrastructure, and an increasingly unaffordable cost of living. Meanwhile, China has spent decades investing heavily in high-speed rail, highways, airports, hospitals, schools, and modern metro systems. The infrastructure that millions of ordinary people actually use every single day. China has built the world's largest high-speed rail network. Entire cities have been transformed. Hundreds of millions of people have escaped extreme poverty over the past several decades. These are tangible improvements in people's lives. I think we should judge a government by what it actually DELIVERS to its citizens? Now, I'm grateful to have the right to vote as an American. I value that right enormously. But I'm also deeply frustrated that the best outcome many Americans can realistically hope for today is two more years of political paralysis. Two more years of Republicans and Democrats fighting each other while the country's biggest problems remain unresolved. Meanwhile, China will continue pursuing its long-term development priorities, investing in infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, and economic growth. Democracy should be judged by more than the ability to cast a ballot. Government should also be judged by its ability to improve people's lives. I'll let you decide which system is delivering better results.

Just a reminder: $4 billion is not the amount the US gives to Israel. That's merely the absolute minimum the US is required to give each year under the Obama/Netanyauh agreement of 2016. In 2024 alone, Biden gave Israel another $18 billion directly beyond the minimum guarantee. Then there are the tens of billions of direct costs to deploy the US military and deplete US weapons systems to protect Israel. Then there are the billions the US gives to dictatorships in the region to keep anti-Israel anger suppressed (like Egypt and Jordan). And that's before even getting to the immense costs of the Iran War, which is being fought against Israel's prime adversary and was started at Israel's urging/insistence. Israel is by far the largest recipient of US aid for decades. The $4 billion aid package is just the start, never the end.
This is why Israel Loyalists have been arguing for a couple years now, with increasing vehemence, that the US should end the direct, overt $4 billion aid package: because there are more covert and permanent ways to tie the US to Israel, whereby Israel will get even more:

The propagandists of the American press have been uncritically describing recent US airstrikes on Iran as “defensive” despite the US being the clear aggressor in this ongoing conflict, and despite the United States existing on the other side of the planet from Iran. CBS News was the most egregious offender with its headline, “U.S. launches defensive strikes at Iranian targets near Strait of Hormuz.” The title frames it as an objective fact that the attack was defensive in nature, without quotation marks around the word "defensive" and without even bothering to uncritically cite US officials as the source of this claim. As a reminder, CBS News was recently acquired by David Ellison, son of Larry Ellison, who is one of the wealthiest people on the planet with a net worth of some $160 billion and who is also the largest single donor to the Israeli military. The Ellisons have responded to Israel’s genocide-induced PR crisis by frenetically buying up control over major platforms like CBS, CNN, HBO Max, Warner Bros and TikTok in order to drum up support for US-Israeli military agendas. Other mass media outlets weren’t much better, uncritically regurgitating assertions from the US government which present the attacks as “defensive”. The Associated Press headline on the story reads, “US has conducted defensive strikes on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz, US official says.” From The Washington Post, “U.S. forces launch new ‘defensive’ strikes in Iran on eve of election.” From CNN, “US military conducts strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island in defensive operation, officials say.” From Fox News, “US launches ‘defensive’ strikes on Iranian island as Tehran talks hang in balance.” From Reuters, “US carries out ‘defensive’ strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island, officials say.” From ABC News, “US carries out defensive airstrikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island: Officials.” From Politico, “US has conducted defensive strikes on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz, US official says.” The first paragraph of the Newsweek write-up on the story reads, “The U.S. carried out defensive strikes against Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. official told the Associated Press (AP) on Monday.” The story that these propagandists are spinning was first broken by The Wall Street Journal, who reported that the attacks on Qeshm Island were actually part of a series of secret strikes on Iran which have been going on for weeks now. Paragraphs four and five of the report contain claims attributed to anonymous US officials saying their attacks have been “defensive in nature” in response to Iranian aggressions, which the aforementioned other outlets then seized on as the most significant and newsworthy element in the story. At no time is the assertion that US forces are “defending” themselves off the coast of Iran ever called into question by any of these outlets. At no time is the audience ever reminded that the US started this war of aggression without any provocation whatsoever. At no time is the audience ever encouraged to ask what the fuck the US military is doing “defending” itself thousands of miles from American shores. I never want to hear another American compare their media’s malpractice to North Korean propaganda ever again. Westerners are more aggressively propagandized than any other population on earth.

Dear German, I have lost count of how many times I have seen Germans openly accuse Chinese people of being antisemitic. Apparently, Germany has become so addicted to its own historical guilt that it now expects the rest of the world to inherit it. Chinese people do not carry an ancestral hatred of Jews. During the Holocaust, while Nazi Germany was persecuting Jews, Chinese diplomat Ho Feng-Shan in Vienna issued visas that helped Jewish families escape Nazi-controlled Austria and reach safety. Ask yourself what Germany was doing at the same time. China does not need lectures from Germans about how Chinese people are supposed to feel toward Jews. Our history with the Jewish people is not your history. And our historical memory works differently. China was the greatest victim of fascist aggression in Asia. Japanese militarism invaded China, occupied its cities, massacred civilians, conducted human experimentation, and tried to destroy Chinese resistance. If China adopted the moral logic Germany now seems to demand from everyone else, then Chinese victimhood would supposedly grant us the right to punish entire nations forever, demand endless obedience to our historical trauma, and call anyone who resisted “anti-Chinese.” We do not. Because Chinese civilization carries another memory: 曾经淋过雨的人,学会为别人撑伞。 Those who have once stood in the rain learn to hold an umbrella for others. That is why Palestinians resonate so deeply with Chinese historical memory. Chinese people see occupation. They see civilians buried under rubble. They see families driven from their homes. They see a powerful military telling the world that its own security justifies another people’s suffering. And they remember what was once done to China. That is why opposition to Israeli state violence is not hatred of Jews. It is precisely because Chinese people remember what fascist aggression looked like when we were its victims. Israel is condemned not because Jews once suffered. It is condemned because historical suffering does not grant anyone a permanent license to reproduce oppression against another people. A victim can become a perpetrator. History has seen this before. And no amount of German guilt can oblige Chinese people to pretend otherwise. Germany may organize its politics around its own historical burden. China will not. Our memory leads us somewhere else: Those who were once oppressed should recognize the oppressed. And that is why the Chinese people stand with the Palestinian people.
Liebe Chinesen, eine Frage: Warum seid ihr so krasse Antisemiten? Die Juden haben euch doch nichts angetan, vermutlich kennt ihr nicht einmal jemanden.

The Ukraine descending into chaos was predictable and predicted. Those of us who predicted it were blackguarded as enemy agents, marginalised, criminalised and exiled. But we were right. The attempt to use Ukraine as a weapon against Russia was both foolish and doomed. It risked thermo-nuclear World War. The gamble has failed. Who will be held to account?

Outcomes from the recently conclude Fifth Plenary Session of the CPC. China will use AI for anti-corruption supervision. This is done in 2 building blocks: 1️⃣A digital big data platform, where public power exercise data (procurement, contracting, fund allocation, approvals, project management, etc.) are all made transparent. 2️⃣AI is used as the analytical layer that scans the aggregated data, to detect hard-to-spot anomalies, hidden financial ties, and patterns of corruption that traditional methods often miss. This combats nepotistic financial ties and white gloves of party officials, it supervises the financial dealings of their families and relatives as well. The core message from the 5th plenary is the Institutionalization of Party-Governance. Put it simply, General Secretary Xi is setting up a robust system for a post-Xi China in 2032. In my opinion, he is the greatest leader of the PRC. May his machine spirit guide the Party long after he retires!
