Michael Scott Hopper, 59, of Nevada, was sentenced in Wyoming to 30 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of firearms.
In a separate case, Dennison Jay Antelope, 35, of Riverton, was sentenced to federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. A traffic stop for expired registration led to contacting Antelope who was a passenger who was found to have an outstanding warrant. A search of the vehicle uncovered drug paraphernalia in the driver's seat, a marijuana pipe on the floorboard where Antelope had been sitting, and a black Taurus 9mm firearm in the back seat. Antelope stated he found the firearm and was intending to sell it. Antelope is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a 2020 felony conviction for strangulation.

Firearms tracing is a law enforcement technique to find the first purchaser of a recovered firearm. ATF tracing services can also help investigators uncover trafficking patterns. Last week, four defendants pleaded guilty to moving dozens of illegally obtained guns from New Hampshire through the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation and into Canada.
Many of these guns were later recovered at Canadian crime scenes. This #HSTF case began with a firearms trace, a recovered gun in Montreal linked back to a New Hampshire purchaser, which ultimately revealed a sophisticated network moving firearms, narcotics, and humans across the U.S.-Canada border.
This case underscores the power of firearms tracing and intelligence‑driven policing. ATF remains committed to disrupting trafficking routes, supporting our international partners, and protecting communities through strong investigative collaboration.
