We also tried the algorithm VINS-Fusion in the underwater dataset Aqualoc. We saw some interesting things: despite of the picture being clear, we have many dynamic elements (fishes, fixed parts of the robot) that make the algorithm drift. So much to be done in underwater SLAM!

If there are two (sur-)names that we love in Robotics those are Gauss and Kalman. In our second lesson, Dr. Michal Kozlowski is teaching us state estimation for navigation 🗺

LSD SLAM(Large Scale Direct Monocular SLAM, Jacob Engel, 2014) summary thread: in this approach, pixel-wise tracking is performed in the front-end at frame rate, while the back-end computes a semi-dense depth map optimized by pose graph optimization at keyframe rate.
