$2.5B allegedly wiped out in a Binance hot wallet exploit
195,460 ETH reportedly moved to another wallet and the address linked to the incident is already raising serious questions.
the plot gets crazier here:
- the funding trail reportedly leads back to Tornado Cash
- an address has been flagged as a suspected Binance hot wallet exploiter
- reports claim ~$971M in USDT has been frozen by Tether
and now there are unconfirmed claims involving Bybit and Bitget Wallet too.
if these numbers are real, we’re talking about a potential record breaking incident that could surpass Bybit’s $1.5B hack in 2025.
but let’s be clear: these claims are NOT verified and the wider exchange hack rumors remain unconfirmed.
genuine question though…
if a major exchange can face a breach on this scale, how much trust should we actually be placing in CEXs with our funds?
