Maybe it’s because of my cardiac arrest, but I don’t understand why patients get upset when I say their symptoms are due to aging. 95% of what I diagnose is because we get old. I always bring it up as delicately as possible, but like do you know how lucky you are? I see patients in their 80s and think, “man I hope I get there one day.” So many things in this world can kill you. You’ve beaten the odds. Honestly, congratulations, you’re old.

If you’re at #DDW2024, check out the Helmsley-supported @PIANOIBD study presenting preliminary results from the first global consensus conference on pregnancy and inflammatory bowel disease.
A multidisciplinary team will prepare evidence-based recommendations surrounding all aspects of pregnancy in patients with IBD: from fertility, to pregnancy and delivery, to infant outcomes.
The session will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 10AM in Ballroom B, session #3210.

Conner is one of my true heroes. He a 7th grader with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a degenerative disease. He comes to my office each year to talk about funding treatments and cures and he’s the bravest friggin kid I know.

PR pro tip (as a former PR/Comms pro): Before reaching out to a journalist/writer/blogger, know your facts and actually read the story before you berate someone for no reason. Being aggressive and wrong isn't a good look.

I was so proud of myself for losing my baby weight after my 2nd kid (pre-Crohn's diagnosis), that I just ignored how horrifically sick I was for years. Looking back, I hate how caught up in the diet-culture pressure I was. I LOVED being that skinny. Everything about it was wrong.
I have dealt with body image issues related to weight fluctuations due to #IBD from prednisone use, moon face to then being so skinny where people called me lanky or always commented on how I was too skinny. #MondayNightIBD #BodyImage
