Prayer isn’t just asking for things. Moses argued with God. Hannah wept before Him. David complained and praised in the same breath. God wants you honest more than polished.

A believer agrees with Jesus. A disciple actually follows him. Plenty of people in the Bible believed he could do miracles. Way fewer were willing to drop everything and follow. Being a disciple isn’t just saying “I believe in God,” it’s letting Jesus shape how you think, live, and decide. That’s why he didn’t just say “believe in me.” He said “follow me.” Christianity was never about just knowing Jesus. It’s about becoming like him.

Religion: “Don’t let your father find out.” Gospel: “Run to your Father.” Religion: “Hide your sin.” Gospel: “Confess your sin.” Religion: “Perform better so God will love you.” Gospel: “God loved you while you were still a sinner.” Religion: “You failed. Try harder.” Gospel: “You failed. Trust Christ.” Religion: “Earn God’s approval.” Gospel: “Receive God’s grace.” Religion: “Your mistakes define you.” Gospel: “Christ defines you.” Religion: “Fix yourself, then come to God.” Gospel: “Come to God, and He’ll begin changing you.” Religion: “God is waiting to punish you.” Gospel: “God is waiting for you to come home.” Religion: “Your worst day disqualifies you.” Gospel: “Jesus qualified you by His finished work.” Religion: “Fear keeps you in line.” Gospel: “Love transforms your heart.” Religion: “God is your judge first.” Gospel: “In Christ, God is your Father.” Religion: “You have to clean yourself up.” Gospel: “Jesus is the One who cleanses you.” Religion: “I’ve gone too far.” Gospel: “His grace goes further.” Religion: “I hope God accepts me.” Gospel: “In Christ, I am accepted.” Religion: “I need to impress God.” Gospel: “Jesus already pleased the Father on my behalf.”

Things Jesus never said… but many Christians believe 👀 - “God helps those who help themselves.” That’s not in the Bible. God helps the helpless. Grace is for people who know they cannot save themselves. - “Follow your heart.” The Bible actually warns that the heart can be deceptive. We are called to follow God, not every feeling we have. “Money is the root of all evil.” The Bible says the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Money itself is just a tool. The heart behind it matters. - “Being a good person is enough.” If being “good” could save us, Jesus wouldn’t need to die. Salvation is through Christ, not human goodness. A lot of things people believe about Christianity are actually culture, not Scripture. That’s why we must know the Word for ourselves.
