The drought in #Borana and lowland areas of Bale have been a long in coming--the compound effect of many failed rainy seasons. Urgent humanitarian assistance is needed. But the problem is much larger: How to make old livelihoods more resilient and sustainable and create new ones.

To learn where Ethiopians stand on current affairs, ask which ኢትዮዽያዊነት speaks to (nauseats) them. Imperial/Dergue's? Walelign's? ሰቆቃው ጴጥሮስ, ... Abbaa Galmaa & ለማለውቅህ ለምታውቀኝ ወንድሜ capture mine. Larebo's as trite as alienating youtu.be/bqgXUFtvLgU
How sweet is peace, especially one that makes both sides to a conflict brothers and whole again. The Orthodox church dispute was regrettable. But there also was a silver lining: What a 3-week crash course on the ancient church, its doctrine, and its believers. Oh, God Almighty!

Consultancies know less than they claim, cost more than they seem to, and — over the long term — prevent the public sector developing in-house capabilities.

The problem is general. In a recent study I did on financial sector👇 I found regulatory bottlenecks of the NBE is stiffling innovation in the financial/ banking sector.

Who would beat Ethiopia in self-sabotage? Greatest sabotage is preventing its creative and innovative types to be able to create and innovate here. Met an innovator & walked away weighed down by the litany of irrational regulatory bottlenecks frustrating him. He considers leaving
#Ethiopia 3rd least #resilent, beating only Venezuela and Haiti, according to the 2019 Resilience Global Index with Norway topping the list followed by Denmark and Switzerland. Something to ponder about as we gear up to face up to the Covid19 menace. fmglobal.com/research-and-re…
Our vulnerabilities:
1) Deep societal divisions
2) High corruption
3) Low trust in state and state machineries/political actors
4) Poor entrepreneurial activity (heavy/corrosive hand of state lasting 50 years)
5) An education system that devalues critical thinking and creativity.

Another unnecessary step--a waste actually. Perhaps part of our societal resistance to go fully online/digital, as when you are allowed to make government payments online only to be asked to still bring a printed receipt to make the payment "official"

Your location hardly seems to matter since they’ll just call you to ask where you are

Also @rideEthiopia drivers who accept your order while being more than 10 minutes from their drop off location. Or Ride drivers who accept your order then stay at their cafe ordering another macchiato before getting in their car.
So @rideEthiopia prevents you from using their services if you cancel a lot? Fact is drivers, usually same drivers, pick up your order while being far away from you and ask you to cancel once knowing your location. Punishing the user for this is not only unfair but simply lame.
