Rachel Nichols’ comments were disgusting, regardless of whether or not she knew she was being recored (which was her own fault fwiw). ESPN’s handling of this situation was arguably worse, only punishing the black producer, Kayla Johnson, who shared the leaked video to Taylor.

According to leaked audio obtained by the Times, Rachel Nichols asserted last year, that Maria Taylor had been given more air time for College Football and NBA games, due to ESPN feeling “pressure” from diversity issues & not her talent. nytimes.com/2021/07/04/sport…

For someone like Woj, because of direct to consumer opportunities, the employer-employee power dynamic has changed as individuals can go direct to consumer. Woj could build his own NBA insider business outside of ESPN. Easier inside ESPN/NBA bubble.
