AI is learning to do the jobs of the people who helped train it. Data labelers spent millions of hours correcting outputs and teaching models to recognise patterns. Developers created the code, documentation and technical solutions that helped AI learn how software is built. Writers and translators produced the language, knowledge and cultural context that models learned from. Support teams and knowledge workers created countless examples of how questions are answered, problems are solved and work gets done. Now AI can label data, write code, translate languages, create content, answer customers and automate parts of the workflows these people perform every day. That does not mean AI is bad. Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon recently warned that AI’s current trajectory could put humanity at serious risk. Speaking at a New York City Council hearing, he said it is “more likely than not that humanity loses control to these AIs,” and described the behavior of leading AI companies as “extremely reckless given the stakes.” But he also made an important point: AI could be incredible for humanity if we get it right.
