North Berwick - #30/Top 100 World
1832 - David Strath
To go to North Berwick is a pilgrimage that all golfers should seek to embark on. It’s a course that has inspired so many.
More importantly, it’s the most FUN you can have playing the game of golf.
The PIT. The Redan. The Biarritz. The Alps/Punchbowl. So many iconic moments for such a short course sitting right on the town.
The 1st and 18th holes will immediately invoke The Old Course. The 18 is a near copy of 18 at St Andrews and it’s wonderful. The 1st requires a blind shot, a fitting start to a wild round.
The course has great hole variety. A great mix of difficulty and design, you never feel like you are repeating a hole. It sits high, so you get the sea view constantly. The course isn’t punishing, it’s wide and inviting, but always interesting.
I smiled the entire day start to finish. Sure the perfect weather and good company helped, but you can’t not have fun when you play a course like this. It’s made to induce smiles.
One of my favorite courses anywhere.

NEW DETAILS on the PGA Tour-PIF merger, per @Rosenberg_Mike
• The PGA Tour will still be called the PGA Tour, but Jay Monahan also now oversees LIV Golf (translation = LIV players will now report to Jay Monahan)
• Monahan has told Al-Rumayyan they will “evaluate” LIV at the end of the year.
• If LIV golfers want to play on the Tour, Monahan and the current PGA Tour leaders have to approve the terms
• Penalties to return to the Tour are presumed to be “significant.”
• It’s likely that Greg Norman is out of a job come 2024
• Al-Rumayyan has made it clear that the PIF just wanted to be a major part of golf, and that - as I’ve suggested in interviews this week - LIV was a means to an end.
