RE: 42 Dugg
Kalshi is now worth 20x its valuation from June 2025. @Kalshi raised $185M at a $2B valuation in June 2025. In October 2026 it closed a $1B Series G at $40B, co-led by @sequoia and Wellington. That's 20x in 16 months, across five rounds. Each step-up came in close to DOUBLE the last one: 2.5x to $5B, 2.2x to $11B, 2.0x to $22B and 1.8x to $40B. Over $3.5B has gone into the company since 2020. how many more doublings does a prediction market have left?

2026 has officially broken the record for the most money ever invested in US startups. But somehow, raising money is still really hard for most founders. PitchBook and NVCA just released their Q3 report on the state of venture capital. I'm going to make this painfully simple because sometimes VC makes absolutely no sense. 1. Investors are spending A LOT of money. $516 BILLION has been invested in US startups this year. That's 44% more than the previous record in 2021. And we still have three months left. 2. Basically, everyone wants to invest in AI. 83% of all the money invested this year went to AI startups. Yes, you read that correctly. EIGHTY THREE PERCENT. 3. A handful of startups are getting almost all the money. In Q3, just 5% of investments accounted for 75% of all the money invested. Translation: A few startups are getting enormous checks while everyone else fights for what's left. 4. The biggest VC firms are getting most of the money, too. VC firms have raised $109 billion from their own investors this year. But 78% of that money went to funds raising at least $500 million. Basically, the big firms are getting bigger. 5. Starting a new VC fund is REALLY hard right now. Only 81 first-time VC funds have raised money this year. We're on track for the fewest new funds in a decade. Like startups, money is concentrating. 6. Investors are still waiting to get their money back. VCs typically make money when the startups they invest in get acquired or go public. And while more companies are going public, there still aren't nearly enough exits to return all the money investors have tied up. So what's the takeaway? There's more money flowing into VC than ever before. But most of it is going to a relatively small group of startups and big VC firms. If you're a hot AI startup, investors might be fighting to give you money. If you're literally anyone else, it's a very different story. Welcome to venture capital in 2026. There's a fascinating dynamic going on in written/visual presentation (i.e., decks) right now where more content = higher odds of being AI slop. If someone sends a long piece of written content or a 40+ slide deck, I immediately get suspicious. Pithy/synchronous comms ftw

Wiz needed 18 months to go from $1M to $100M ARR. In 2022 it called itself the fastest scaling software company. The new AI cohort compressed that into months. Time to a $100M run rate: 1️⃣ microagi, 6 months 2️⃣ Lovable, 8 months 3️⃣ Emergent, 8 months 4️⃣ Manus AI, 8 months 5️⃣ Arena, 8 months 6️⃣ Genspark, 9 months 7️⃣ Pocket, 10 months 8️⃣ Skild AI, 10 months 9️⃣ Base44, 12 months 🔟 AfterQuery, 14 months Legora, Perplexity, ElevenLabs and Sierra also got there inside two years. "Fast" used to mean years. Now it means quarters. Which of these is still growing like this in 2030?

launch videos have become a genre unto themselves which means they’re increasingly optimized for the launch video rather than the product. the irony is that the stronger the product the less theater you need.

New on our Engineering blog: Creating in-house source control. In May, we merged around 2,500 code changes per day. In September, we merged more than 30,000 per day. As a result, we became bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human (rather than agent) scale. Here, we share how we built a new version control system—and fully migrated our monorepo from git—in five months: anthropic.com/engineering/re…

Distrokid is the latest big music industry acquisition. But it's not the only one ... Dozens of music platforms you use every day got bought and consolidated over the last five years. Not always bad ... but better models required.

What's "working" in consumer AI? We @a16z pulled the data. There are only seven products that rank in the top 50 globally on web traffic, mobile traffic, and monthly revenue What they have in common: - General assistance: everyone knows and loves them - @ChatGPT and @claudeai. Also in this category? @perplexity_ai - which ranks significantly higher in revenue than it does in traffic. Perplexity has recently leaned in to monetizing power users via agentic products like Computer - Creative tools: represented here by @suno and @Photoroom, examples of two different (both successful) strategies. Suno developed a proprietary model in an area where the labs were less likely to play (music), partially due to legal complexity. Photoroom serves prosumer users making content with AI for marketing, e-comm, etc. with tools that are both very easy to use and very accessible (I'm a mobile WAU!) - Incumbents adding AI: @NotionHQ and @canva both rank here. They benefit from existing distribution / user bases, but have been nimble enough to reinvent their products with AI...Canva for creative generation and editing (see category 2 above), and Notion as an AI workspace for teams and agents. I expect to see many more companies on this list as consumer AI categories open up - which may require more "free" products that monetize via ads or transactions. Each of the above is fairly subscription-heavy / freemium.

Technical moats are mostly over at this point. If you’re building something that is meant to be durable, the only moats now are: • Proprietary data • Network effects • A physical component
