Through this new cooperation, we will deepen our joint work on SCION and SCIERA — from deployment and technical knowledge exchange to supporting Brazilian research and education organizations and exploring joint international research projects. 🔐 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦-𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐧. Governments and institutions worldwide are preparing for the post-quantum era. The EU recently published its roadmap for the 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗖𝗿𝘆𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 (𝗣𝗤𝗖), with an ambitious timeline: high-risk use cases should be migrated by 2030 and, where feasible, the transition should be completed by 2035. Similar timelines are emerging globally. 📄 𝗘𝗨 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽: digital-strategy.ec.europa.e… But becoming quantum-safe is about much more than replacing today's cryptographic algorithms. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙩𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙥𝙩. Future network architectures require cryptographic agility, secure key management, and the ability to evolve as technologies and threats change. 🌐 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗢𝗡 is not exempt from this transition. It, too, must evolve for the post-quantum era. The difference is that SCION was designed with security as a first-class principle. Its security-centric architecture makes it particularly well suited to integrate Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). We are excited to share that the Network Security Group (ETH Zurich) has received an award through the NVIDIA 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, supporting our research with two 𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗜𝗔 𝗗𝗚𝗫 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀. The award follows our proposal, "𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨-𝘋𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘙𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘓𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦-𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘩-𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴," which explores how learning-based approaches can help optimize routing in increasingly complex and dynamic networks. Beyond this specific project, the two DGX Spark systems will provide us with a powerful platform for exploring the broader intersection of 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀. In particular, the two-node setup will enable us to experiment with distributed Al workloads and study how their communication interacts with and can benefit from the underlying network. I’m honored to receive a 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 from @ERC_Research for our project SOPHIA (Self-Optimizing Path-aware High-performance Intelligent Architecture). Over the past years, our team and collaborators have developed SCION as a next-generation Internet architecture that provides path control, resilience, and security. Today, SCION is already supporting critical infrastructure in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and energy. I'm looking forward to giving a keynote on July 1st at the IFIP 𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐏 𝐓𝐌𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, held at TU Delft | Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. TMA has been a key venue for researchers and practitioners working on network measurement, Internet architecture, and traffic analysis. We're thrilled to see this work, originally presented by Felix Stöger at USENIX Security 2025, now made accessible to a broader audience. The article explains how what the security community believed was impossible can actually be weaponized against over 20 of the world's 30 largest networks. A BGP Vortex creates persistent instability in global internet routing that can be deliberately triggered to destabilize routing and potentially cause widespread connectivity outages. At #SCIONDay2025, the 𝗦𝗘𝗣𝗡 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 introduced the 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘌𝘍𝘛𝘗𝘖𝘚 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 (𝘚𝘌𝘗𝘕) — a SCION-based network designed to protect payment flows from cyber threats and Internet outages. SEPN enables protected, seamless, and reliable transactions at the point of sale, offering an independent and resilient connectivity model for merchants, acquirers, issuers, and schemes. It is a dedicated SCION Isolation Domain (ISD) purpose-built for cashless payments. By running on SCION, SEPN gives merchants, acquirers, issuers, and schemes a trusted, independent network with: • 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗯𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻: authenticated paths and isolation reduce attack surface and route manipulation. • 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀: multi-path connectivity and fast failover keep POS and e-commerce flows available. • 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: participants can communicate without relying on any single communication provider, while still enforcing common rules and governance.
