In 2016, just months after learning her breast cancer was terminal, 42-year-old Molly Kochan left her husband and began sleeping with strangers she met online. Over the next few years she was with nearly 200 different men. Hormone treatment unexpectedly sent her sex drive sky-high, and with so little time left she stopped holding anything back. After years of surgeries, scars, and trauma, sex made her feel alive again and gave her a sense of control over her own body. She told her best friend Nikki Boyer everything. Eventually the two set up microphones and started recording their talks about every date. Even when the cancer put her in a hospital bed she kept going sexting strangers between treatments and working on her memoir. Before she died in March 2019 at 45, Molly asked Nikki for two things: publish the book and release the recordings. Nikki did both.

Afghan women athletes are still holding onto the medals, trophies, and gear they earned before the rules made it nearly impossible for them to compete. Boxing gloves, cricket bats, bicycles each piece stands for years of training, hard work, and real dedication. Their chances have been cut short, but what they achieved and the love they have for their sports still matter. Their stories are a clear reminder that every girl should get the chance to play, compete, and chase what she wants.

Back in August 2022, a 21-year-old guy in Egypt was reportedly accused of setting his fiancée’s school on fire after she failed her exams. Word was he worried the bad results would push back their wedding. The fire damaged some office areas and student records, but nobody got hurt. Police picked him up, and the whole thing got attention mainly because of how bizarre the situation was.

A wedding guest reportedly wiped every photo they’d taken after the couple treated them badly even though the couple had only paid $250. From the story going around online, the person was actually a dog groomer who’d agreed to shoot the wedding as a favor. They spent about eight hours outside in the heat, then got told they couldn’t even sit down for dinner and that no seat had been saved for them. The whole thing blew up online and kicked off arguments about basic respect and whether it was fair.

In the 1970s, Mexican actress Lyn May was approached by a woman who said she could improve her looks with a simple injection. Trusting her, Lyn let the woman inject her cheeks with what was supposed to be collagen. It turned out to be a mix of cooking oil and baby oil. At first the results seemed fine. Then hard lumps started forming under her skin, and her face gradually changed shape and never went back to the way it was. Over the years she went through multiple surgeries trying to get the oil out, but each one only left more scars. The damage was permanent. The change left her so devastated that she later said she thought about ending her life. Decades later, doctors still haven’t been able to remove all of the oil from her face.

In 2014, a Chicago woman named Dawn Michelle Hunt thought she’d won the trip of a lifetime. She got an email saying she had won an all-expenses-paid trip to Australia. She was suspicious at first, but after looking into the company she decided the offer was real. The itinerary included a stop in China so she could pick up prize paperwork and some designer handbags she was supposed to carry on to Australia. At the airport in Guangzhou, security searched the bags and found more than 4.5 pounds of methamphetamine sewn into the linings. Hunt was arrested. Chinese authorities later said she had probably been used as an unwitting drug mule, but the court still convicted her, saying she “should have known better.” She was originally sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, which was later reduced to life in prison. More than a decade later she is still locked up in Guangdong Women’s Prison, and her family is still fighting to get her out.

Femi Otedola is reportedly buying shares in Dangote Cement and aiming for a stake of up to 5%. A 5% holding would be worth roughly $700 million based on the company’s closing price on 23 October. Dangote Industries already owns 86.65% of the cement producer, which leaves relatively few shares available for other investors. Neither Otedola nor Dangote Cement has confirmed that the billionaire has actually reached the 5% mark.

Elon Musk’s Starlink offered to put about $28 million into providing free internet for more than 5,000 schools in South Africa. The programme could reach an estimated 2.4 million pupils every year. US Ambassador Leo Brent Bozell III says Musk turned down a requirement to hand over 30% of the local business to historically disadvantaged owners. Instead, Starlink has suggested meeting South Africa’s empowerment rules by investing in infrastructure and education.

Egypt’s parliament has given President Sisi the green light to take whatever steps are needed to help Saudi Arabia defend itself against Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis. The decision follows a request from Sisi for formal authorisation to provide military support if Riyadh asks for it. The Houthis’ control of territory threatens the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a vital waterway for Egypt’s Suez Canal revenues and for global shipping. Even though Egypt has long avoided sending troops abroad and did not join the recent Saudi-Pakistan-Turkey defence pact, it is now looking at taking a bigger role in regional security.

Safina Namukwaya from Uganda is one of the oldest mothers in Africa. After several failed pregnancies and losses in the 1990s, she tried again in 2019 through IVF. In 2020, at the age of 67, she gave birth to a baby girl. Then in November 2023, when she was 70, she delivered twins by caesarean section. The babies came early at 31 weeks, but both they and their mother recovered without any complications. Looking back, Safina says she trusts that faith guided her journey. She believes no one can limit what God has planned.

Britain is refusing to issue a formal apology for slavery, which is raising tensions during King Charles III’s visit to the Caribbean. The King is expected to acknowledge Britain’s role in the slave trade but will stop short of offering an official apology. Ghana has become a leading voice in coordinating Africa’s international campaign for reparations. Jamaica is taking a legal route, formally petitioning King Charles to address Britain’s responsibility for slavery through the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

The United States Ambassador to South Africa, Leo Brent Bozell III, has warned that the country Africa’s biggest economy could slide into the kind of deep poverty, political turmoil and economic hardship seen in Haiti if it sticks with the wrong economic and land policies. 🇿🇦 In an interview with The Common Sense, he also said South Africa has the potential to become as economically successful as the United States if it makes the right choices. The comments come as tensions between the US and South Africa continue to rise.
