At the heart of today’s discussion is a critical question: What does home mean in a continent divided by borders?
As African feminists reclaim narratives of identity, movement and belonging, the conversation challenges us to rethink the borders that shape our lives and imagine an Africa where everyone can move freely and belong without limits.

Lamin: Language outlive the borders. You cannot make a historical account starting with the independence of those countries. There was no place called The Gambia in 1884. We have different nations living together in different states.
English, French and Portuguese still divides neighbours. Banjul and Dakar share Wolof, but not as an official languages. We still get to speak Wolof, Mandinka beyond the colonial languages.

Six Moves to Shift the Narratives
Lamin offers these six moves that Africans can shift the narrative
1. Centre her voice - as the narrator not the case study
2. Name the system - Link the bribe to the policy that allows it
3. Restore continuity- Africans moved long before the borders did
4. Show full loves - Trader, mother, organizer, never only the victim or threat
5. Write the Consent - Trauma-informed and safe, the story belongs to the teller
6. Connect to Policy - Free Movement Protocol, AfCFTA, Women and Youth in Trade Protocol

#ABF #ABF2026 #AbidjanBorderForum cc @CnfciC @SCnfci
