Trashed our corn head backshaft bracket yesterday around 4:00. Welded it back together last night, made a six-hour round trip for a new shaft today, and 24 hours later, we’re back at it. Pulling into the driveway last night, I was about at my breaking point. Didn’t know if we’d find parts or if I needed to start shopping for another corn head. But if life has taught me anything, it’s to never, EVER quit. There’s something about farming on a small scale with older equipment that people don’t always understand. Going to the field isn’t necessarily the hard part. It’s the reward. The sigh of relief after the frustration, the uncertainty, the late nights, and figuring out how to make something work with what you’ve got. Sometimes you go to the field tired, not rested. And you’re just thankful to be going.

There is something profoundly tragic about the endless wars of the Middle East. Iran. Israel. Palestine. For God’s sake, some of these people have virtually nothing. No wealth. No political influence. No meaningful say in the decisions that determine whether their children live to see tomorrow. And what is their crime? Being born on the wrong side of a border? Living beneath a government they did not choose? Refusing to kiss the ring of some distant power? Meanwhile, here at home, the poor grow poorer. War sends shockwaves through energy markets, through transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, and ultimately into the homes of working families already struggling to survive. The bombs fall abroad. The bills come due everywhere. But perhaps the greatest tragedy is that we’ve come to accept all of this as a system. We have spent generations perfecting the engineering of civilization while neglecting its humanity. We can calculate the cost of a missile to the penny, but cannot assign value to the innocent life it extinguishes. We can engineer extraordinary machines of destruction, yet struggle to imagine a world that doesn’t require them. The political class speaks of security. The generals speak of necessity. The corporations speak of growth. And the dead speak nothing. We have confused technological sophistication with moral progress. Efficiency with wisdom. Power with civilization. What good is all our intelligence if we cannot summon the humanity to question what we’re using it for? Perhaps the failure of modern civilization is not that our systems are broken. Perhaps it is that we have become so consumed with perfecting them that we’ve forgotten to ask whether they should exist at all.

Harvest relief for America’s farmers. Today, @POTUS and @SecRollins announced the Harvest Fuel Relief Program — making $8 BILLION available for one-time payments to farmers facing higher costs and market disruptions. Here’s what that means: ➡️ Payments to help cover a portion of estimated losses for the 2026 crop year. ➡️ Payment amounts based on planted acres, production costs, crop yields, and prices. ➡️ Row crop payment rates announced in November, with details for other eligible commodities to follow. ➡️ Application will be available online using a Login.gov account that is connected to USDA. 🔗 usda.gov/about-usda/news/pre…

I’ve been thinking about the direction technology is taking humanity. At what point does something we create become something we worship? We’re racing to develop intelligence that will supposedly surpass our own. But what happens when we start believing that superior intelligence also means superior judgment? Or worse, superior authority? Knowledge becomes dependence. Dependence becomes obedience. And eventually, does obedience become a form of worship? For thousands of years, man has wrestled with the idea of being created by God. Now we’re approaching a future where man could create his own. There’s a strange irony in that. Technology was supposed to make mankind more capable, more independent, more free. But what if we’re building something that ultimately makes us less of all three? At what point does technological progress stop serving humanity and humanity start serving technological progress?

Heads up to everyone planning on harvesting tomorrow. A strong geomagnetic storm hit Earth today, and NOAA has issued another storm watch for Sunday. GPS guidance could be affected, with possible AutoTrac drift, reduced accuracy, or lost corrections. If you notice anything unusual with your guidance system, check the space weather before assuming there’s a problem with your equipment.
