🇰🇪 This #MashujaaDay, I celebrate human rights defenders with disabilities, myself included. Our journey is not easy, but we keep pressing on, breaking barriers and celebrating every small win. May we live to see a Kenya where inclusion is a reality, not a struggle. #MashujaaDay

TRIGGER WARNING, sensitive content! The video below shows a man with a physical disability being manhandled by police for barely walking in a street of Nakuru. The man was just walking with another man who ran away when he saw a police track. The man panics when he sees a group of about 10 policeman approach him, one mishandles him and he lets go of his crutches and falls down. The group of policemen then shout at him to stand up despite his impairment. They mishandle him and bundle him on the track. The man is not in possession of any weapon. He was just walking and not a threat to anyone. The Persons with Disabilities Act, 2025 section 17 states that, "Every person with disability has the right to be protected against all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and physical, mental, sexual, or emotional violence..." This right appears to have been violated by the very people entrusted with protecting the public, in broad daylight and in full view of witnesses. How then are persons with disabilities behind bars being treated? How are they treated when they visit police stations to seek for services? This incident must not end with public outrage alone. We call for: • An immediate, independent investigation into the conduct of the officers involved, with appropriate accountability where violations occur. • Mandatory disability inclusion and human rights training for all police officers, with practical guidance on interacting respectfully and safely with persons with disabilities. #HumanRights #DisabilityRights @kipmurkomen @MwauraIsaac1 @HakiKNCHR @HakiKNCHR @IPOA_KE

This is monstrous! IG Kanja we need an explanation from @NPSOfficial_KE I agree @bmautoparts - a time is coming in this country where a president will not tolerate police brutality of any kind, least of all to the most vulnerable of citizens. A president who truly cares for the people.
Why would you do this to someone living with disability? Polisi si binadamu!

Shame on the police officers responsible. No one, especially a person with a disability, should be treated this way in a civilized society. Such conduct shows a complete disregard for human dignity. Those responsible must be held accountable.
