Day 80 of 90 Work Stress Awareness Campaign for Nigerians in the UK
One of the major reasons why many of us are stressed out is because of money. Unfortunately, both poverty and wealth can stress you.
You would think all your problems will disappear the moment they have plenty of money. But the truth is, money introduces a different kind of stress.
In fact, some people will literally experience mental breakdown if they suddenly see ₦1 billion in their account. Not because money is bad, but because their mind is not prepared for the responsibility, decisions and expectations that come with having such an amount of money.
Money can trigger fear, anxiety, greed, pressure from family and endless demands, if you are not careful.
Some people are stressed because they do not have enough money while others are stressed because they have excess money.
Now imagine not having money and you are trying to maintain a lifestyle that you cannot afford.
That is mega stress.
Living abroad alone comes with a lot of money stress because you are trying to keep up appearances and you are under pressure to please people who think money grows on trees abroad.
You would have truly mastered stress when money no longer controls your emotional state. Money is important, but it should never have the power to take away your peace of mind.
No amount of money should make you lose your sanity.
If you cannot handle small money peacefully, large money will only increase your stress.
If you want practical strategies to manage stress while living and working abroad, I have written a helpful guide for Nigerians in the UK.

**Day 81 of 90 Work Stress Awareness Campaign for Nigerians in the UK**
There is nothing as painful as emotional torture in the form of silent treatment.
Sometimes, emotional torture is more painful than physical abuse.
Please avoid the silent treatment and never go to bed with malice.
Settle all disputes with your spouse before sleeping at night.
The Bible says, "Do not allow the sun to go down on your anger."
This is a powerful stress management strategy.
Keeping quiet during conflict is not maturity, but it helps sometimes.
Silent treatment causes emotional pain, and stress that is bottled up causes serious damage to the body.
When you go to bed angry, your body does not rest even if you are sleeping.
Your mind keeps replaying the scenario, stress hormones remain high through the night, your blood pressure stays elevated, your heart works harder, and your sleep becomes shallow. You wake up feeling tired even after many hours in bed.
Malice increases tension, headaches, chest tightness, irritability, and emotional distress. Over time, it affects your relationships and slowly damages your health.
Miscommunication is a major reason for many conflicts, and this is affecting a lot of marriages.
You may not solve every issue immediately, but do everything within your power to resolve any issues with your spouse before going to bed. Talk it out. Apologise if necessary and agree to revisit the misunderstanding another day.
Choose peace over ego.
A peaceful home allows your body to rest, recover, and heal.
I have written a practical guide to help you recognise warning signs early and learn how to reduce the impact of stress before it is too late.
