Tommy, thank you for asking. Let me explain why I believe Abdul El-Sayed would be a dangerous choice for the United States Senate and why I believe patriotic Democrats should oppose his candidacy.
1) Support for authoritarianism and censorship: In 2012, El-Sayed signed a statement backing Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s extraordinary executive powers and calling for a purge of Egypt’s media and police. This is an appalling endorsement of authoritarian measures and suppression of the press.
2) Troubling denials of Muslim Brotherhood family ties: El-Sayed categorically denied family connections to the Muslim Brotherhood despite his half-sister’s public statements describing longstanding family involvement. This glaring discrepancy raises serious questions about his candor, character, and credibility.
3) Appalling response to antisemitic terrorism: After the terrorist attack on Temple Israel synagogue in Michigan, El-Sayed invoked the attacker’s grievances against Israel and declared that “hurt people hurt people,” appearing to rationalize terrorism against innocent American Jews. He subsequently apologized under extreme duress, but his initial response revealed profoundly troubling judgment.
4) Embrace of extremist Hasan Piker: El-Sayed aggressively campaigned alongside Hasan Piker despite Piker’s notorious declaration that America deserved 9/11 and his inflammatory anti-American, antisemitic and pro-terrorist rhetoric. His willingness to elevate Piker for political advantage demonstrates a disturbing tolerance for extremism and incitement.
5) Failure to distinguish allies from adversaries: El-Sayed refused to identify Iran as a greater threat to America than Israel. His inability to draw this fundamental distinction raises grave concerns about his national-security judgment.
6) Threat to America’s global security commitments: El-Sayed opposes unconditional American military assistance to foreign countries and advocates redirecting resources toward domestic spending. This raises serious concerns about his willingness to sustain the military partnerships essential to deterring Chinese aggression against Taiwan and defending American interests alongside our allies in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and elsewhere.
7) Support for defunding the police and political backtracking: El-Sayed advocated shifting funding away from police, deleted relevant social media posts, and subsequently distanced himself from his earlier position. This raises serious questions about his public-safety judgment and political integrity.
8) Using accusations of Islamophobia to deflect legitimate scrutiny: El-Sayed has characterized questions about his documented support for Morsi and his family’s alleged Muslim Brotherhood connections as Islamophobic. Religious prejudice is unacceptable, but legitimate questions about a candidate’s political record demand honest answers.
Tommy, I believe deeply in the best values of inclusion and opportunity of the modern Democratic Party. I also believe that patriotism, democratic principles, opposition to extremism, public safety, and a clear-eyed understanding of America’s national-security interests must transcend party loyalty.
I am all for backing Democratic candidates with a compelling vision for our nation's future, but we Democrats will do immeasurable harm to ourselves by supporting candidates like El-Sayed who have shown themselves, in word and deed, to be unworthy of our trust.
That’s what I mean when I say that Abdul El-Sayed does not represent the values of our party or our nation and that Democratic voters can (and imo should) express their commitment to Democratic and democratic values by not voting for him.

You realize the Muslim Brotherhood has been designated a terrorist organization by Muslim governments, right? Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain have all done it, and Jordan banned the group last year. @ChrisMurphyCT @BulwarkClips And you’re fine with Abdul El-Sayed acting as guardian at his queer half-sister’s Sharia wedding to a man, handling her one-dollar dowry, because he says he’s obligated to live by Sharia? Or the fact that he signed a letter to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood president calling on him to “purge the media and the police as quickly as possible”? How do you sleep at night?

🚨 WOW! Abdul El Sayed just got DESTROYED by a patriot in Michigan for being a DUAL CITIZEN for Egypt, yet seeking election to the US Senate
"You LIED about your citizenship to Egypt as well! You lied! You're a dual citizen!" 🤯
Abdul spent MONTHS dodging questions about being registered on Egypt's national database as a dual citizen while running to sit in the Senate — and vote on America's most sensitive national security secrets!
He's also tied to the Muslim Brotherhood.
HE HAS FOREIGN ISLAMIST LOYALTIES!
Vote for Michigan Mike on Tuesday 🇺🇸

They called it apartheid. The ballot box called them liars. Arab and Muslim parties are winning 17 seats in Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. Arab turnout was above 70% in town after town. Wait, I thought Zionists were racist, so how come these “racists” are giving parliamentary seats to Arabs and Muslims, who, in turn, came out to vote? Some villages hit 90% turnout.
They democratically participated and voted in a Zionist democratic system they believe in?
Arabs now hold about 14% of Israel’s parliament. Muslim MPs hold about 4% of Britain’s. Odd kind of apartheid, where the “oppressed” vote harder than London does.

It can’t be said enough that if AES made the minimum effort to reassure Jewish voters in Michigan he’d likely have most of their support. Instead most of them will cast a ballot for Rogers. Political malpractice
Rabbis with the Nonnegotiable campaign said Abdul El-Sayed hasn’t done enough to disavow an antisemitic ad by an outside group supporting him.
And they expressed broader fears about political alienation amid the party’s embrace of El-Sayed.

I just disagree with him that any of Israel’s problems would improve if Bibi is replaced.
Like the quote I highlighted from Saul, everyone agreed on Gaza quiet. Bibi made Iran his life’s mission and we know he was right all along and well prepared for Hezbollah and Iran.
None of Israel’s deteriorating reputation is on Bibi.
People hate him with a passion, his political adversaries AND anti-Israel people alike because Bibi is superhumanly effective.
Affordability is a serious problem in Israel because they must import so much from abroad and have high import taxes, but it’s a problem globally and Bibi is a genuine free market guy. Israel’s economy is super strong and unemployment is low. And this has been without exploiting cheap Palestinian labor.
Bibi’s time is limited, but any replacement will be a serious step down in quality and effectiveness and they won’t be able to withstand the global pressure because they will lack his confidence, capabilities and contacts. Israel and the US need him to serve the remainder of Trump’s term.
I think I agree with Dan and Saul on most things but Dan drifts leftward to appear above the fray, not because he believes anything will improve by replacing the GOAT with an amateur.
Bibi survives like a cockroach or alligator because he runs circles around his opponents without Bibi’s American experience and outlook.

These comments are clueless. 12 out of the 19 seats that are going to Arab parties according to the latest count belong to a party that refuses to be part of any Israeli government. And the remaining 7 seats aren't enough for the opposition to reach a majority.

🚨 ISRAEL ELECTION UPDATE: 90% OF VOTES COUNTED—LIQUID LEADS WITH 26 SEATS
With approximately 90% of the votes counted, the latest election update shows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud remaining the largest party, with 26 seats, followed by Gadi Eisenkot's Yashar party with 21.
LATEST SEAT PROJECTIONS:
Likud: 26
Yashar: 21
Joint List: 12
Yachad: 12
The Democrats: 8
Ra'am: 7
Yisrael Beiteinu: 7
United Torah Judaism: 7
Otzma Yehudit: 7
Shas: 7
Religious Zionism and Zehut: 6
BLOC BREAKDOWN:
Current coalition: 53 seats
Change bloc: 48 seats
Joint List: 12 seats
Ra'am: 7 seats
The current coalition remains short of the 61 seats required for a parliamentary majority. However, the opposition also faces a difficult path toward forming a government without support from Arab parties.

Looks like we struck a nerve with Dearborn's Osama Siblani, an enthusiastic supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah, over our story about @AbdulElSayed sucking up to him at a roundtable at Siblani's offices the other day.
Siblani did say Israeli Jews should be sent "back to Poland." He's also said Israel's actions in Gaza are "worse than the Holocaust."

I’ve had this weight on me for a while and felt the need to share it once and for all.
Years ago, the CEO and co-founder of Semafor, a media publication, approached me. He presumably wanted me to consider investing, because he spent a significant amount of time boasting about all of his supplemental sources of revenue.
I was stunned when he bragged about getting an enormous amount of money from the government of Qatar. The pretense was that he was receiving these funds to “train journalists.” I don’t recall the precise amounts, but recall that he acknowledged that the cost to conduct this “training” was a tiny fraction of what he was getting paid - directionally it was something like getting paid $2mm to conduct a “media training” boot camp that would cost Semafor $50,000 to execute. I pointed out that it sounded like he was being bribed - that nobody with proper intentions would offer to pay something that was 20-100X off market - and no entity pretending to be a journalism outfit should accept stuff like that, as it would compromise him.
He insisted that wouldn’t happen. But over the course of many years, I’ve observed how Semafor continues to receive government sponsorships and perform all sorts of “trainings” and “conferences” in partnership with Qatar, while providing very complementary coverage to the government of Qatar. This is downright unethical - and particularly unbecoming of an outfit pretending to be “training journalists”! The problem doesn’t end with Semafor.
The government of Qatar has been buying off media, education and other groups, with reports of how it deployed billions of dollars in the US higher education system. All of us who care about ethics should demand an investigation into these practices. Regardless of whether legal authorities choose to look into this, we as the people and the consumers should admonish such egregious behavior and ensure we avoid “media” publications that are so compromised.
Countless journalists risk their lives every day to expose abuses in power. Semafor does a disservice to the profession by undermining trust.

I've seen some people say, "But it was just a joke." No, no, it wasn't. That's the point. The "comedian" Nabil Abdulrashid already had deeply embedded prejudice against Jews, and it showed as soon as he made his "joke".
Calling Hebrew a borrowed language when it's around a thousand years older than Arabic, for starters, then launching into a Gaza chant which had nothing to do with the subject of his original "joke" to begin with.
And the biggest irony of all? Well, two things, actually.
One being a Muslim as a black man. Reading up on the trans-Saharan slave trade will provide some context for that.
And two, he's "Gaza till I die", while in Gaza, there's an area historically associated with black Gazans, where they've faced racial discrimination and have been referred to as "Al-Abeed", meaning... "slaves".
