Had the pleasure of visiting the @LCPSOfficial Admin Building today to work with Ts from the gifted department on the benefits of integrating computer science tools into their lesson designs. Lots of great ideas came up while they practiced coding with the @iRobotEducation Root.
4th grade Ss at Moorefield Station Elementary have been tasked to create devices with @LEGO_Education Spike to help fairytale characters solve problems. This device, called the Beanstalk Chopper 9000, was designed to help Jack keep his beanstalk from growing back. @lauralissak
For a fun way to practice descriptive writing, 3rd graders from Mrs. Parker’s class @RoundHillES learned about creating prompts for AI Image Generators. They then practiced writing prompts in a group for me to put into the @canva image generator to see what images were created.

@LCPSOfficial: 5th grade students at Moorefield Station Elementary used the @iRobotEducation Root to recreate Piet Mondrian art to reinforce concepts connected to geometry, measurement, and coding. I am so excited to see their final products in a few weeks. @lauralissak
K & 1st grade Ss @emerickelem1967 learned about CS concepts connected to facial recognition in library. Using the book, They All Saw A Cat by @BRENDAN_WENZEL, they abstracted common features of cats, looked for patterns, & created algorithms to help draw real & computer cats.
Kindergarten students @RoundHillES practiced unplugged computer science today when they created an outfit rule for @hellorubyworld to wear one day next week. This was a great way to integrate CS concepts into their reading and writing block. @csforlcps

@LCPSOfficial: To celebrate #EarthDay2024 Ss @emerickelem1967 used their Computational Thinking skills to design and create Trashion Fashion outfits for their teachers to wear. Huge shout out to the models for strutting their stuff this morning at the Trashion Show! @csforlcps
I had so much fun today @RoundHillES trying a brand new @iRobotEducation lesson with 4th & 5th grade students. We learned all about variables and how to program Root to travel random integers using the math blocks. Ss were also able to collect data during a Root Race! @csforlcps
Fun day @emerickelem1967 today as K-5 teachers looked at ways to add Computer Science to their @LCPS_Math playlists. For their engagement activity, Ts were tasked to create a virtual model using a digital platform and then discuss ways it could be used in upcoming units.
I had the best time hanging out with @mrshollar this afternoon as she introduced the @SpheroEdu Indi to one of the amazing @RoundHillES kindergarten classes. Ss made a hypothesis about what each color would make the robot do and then tested their predictions. #CSforLCPS
