This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. BREAKING: YES! A federal judge drops the HAMMER on Trump and orders him to be deposed for his $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC over alleged defamation.
This is the LAST thing in the world he wants...
U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjoliquรฉ Lett has ruled that Trump must be deposed by the BBC's attorneys โ which, it should be noted, are some of the best-paid, most incisive, ruthless lawyers in the business โ by December 11th. Given Trump's worsening dementia and pathological penchant for lying, it's safe to presume that they will tear him apart.
If Trump refuses to be deposed by the deadline, he risks forfeiting the entire lawsuit. He was originally supposed to sit for the deposition on October 16th, but his attorneys informed the BBC that he was "no longer available" because he had to tend "other matters of national importance." Translation: He was scared.
The suit in question revolves around patently absurd allegations of defamation stemming from the editing of a documentary about Trump's fascist efforts to overturn the 2020 election after he lost to Joe Biden. The case is clearly meritless, but Trump was hoping to use the powers of the presidency to harass and intimidate the BBC into agreeing to a settlement, like he has with other outlets. Thankfully, they're standing firm.
