Holy, talk about the canary in the coal mine! This article looks at how hundreds of different bird species have moved their range north as the climate has warmed, “to conserve their environmental niches and limit their exposure”. But despite these moves, no species has been able to fully maintain their historical climate niches… with some important implications for other “animals” (cough cough): “Species’ historical niches are becoming increasingly mismatched with contemporary climates, even in a highly mobile taxon, raising concerns about the ability of other wildlife to persist in a warmer world.”
